No problem at all!  I should say that the QBs were really throwing some good balls today, outside of the picks. Many of the long plays were when rookies were trying to defend. They will get better, and I also should add that on some of those long plays, in a contact situation, the QBs would have never gotten the ball off against the on-coming push of the DL and the linebackers around the edge.

funny . . . we replied at the same time.

again, thanks for the updates.  season can't get here soon enough!!!

There will be times in pads when the rush doesn't get home...the DBs still gotta cover and contest. Its only day 2. Not panicked yet just commentary. Of course we don't want our QBs eating lunch through a straw either. ;)

Teeder, thanks for the updates. We need to buy your lunch or dinner!

I'm all for buying lunch for Teeder. Where do I send the check?

Also - I heard Aplin has moved to guard with Rooney as the #2 center. It's early, obviously, but it sounds like there's going to be some shuffling around on the OL until the right mix is found. Stay healthy, boys!

Aplin is my boy. I hope he's in the rotation this year. I wish our whole team was nasty like him.

That makes a lot of sense. Rooney was taking most of the snaps at center with the second stringers. I will watch for Aplin.

Good write up Teeder.  I made out there today not really focusing on any group in particular but noticed mason bennett numerous times.  His quickness is just incredible!   Man, the d line is going to be deep and talented!  When he is in the game and you add disterhuapt and say jawon at OLB.....wow for speed speed speed speed up front!! The und students better dust off the sack city sign as I believe the opposing qb could very well be laying on his back most of the game.

Thanks!  Nice to have someone out there to check my reporting in case I err on something!  Take care!

How is Taj Rich's mobility looking?

Really good! He's not holding much back at all, it would appear. He had another good day.

If Taj is healthy he'll be all conference he had several games with double digit tackles before the injury. Great example of a kid who stuck it out during the transition.

So how about the punters? How do they look? They are the unsung heroes of the defense and are a major question mark going into this season.

ditto . . . the punting game last year was solid!  Again, hard to tell what a punter can do when nobody is in his face.

I mean just in terms of ball striking and pop off of the foot. The sound is a good indication. A deep thud is a good sign.

I usually arrive at Memorial Stadium right at 8:30am, and I believe the specialists do the bulk of their work before that. However, there was some punting to day in the regular session.  We had two punters go today: Bolduc and Dussold. The kid out of Mississippi looked to have a wrap on his thigh and thus did not participate.

Bulduc did just enough per usual, nothing to write home about but his punts tended to land  in bounds more.

Dussold produces the sound you were talking about, and he did force the returner to back peddle a couple of times. But his sometimes came off his foot funny.

Niether were sticking them like Meindel tended to do routinely.

Love all the positives coming out of camp! Any early criticisms, or areas of concern?

Thanks for the updates Teeder!

In a word ----DEPTH. but we already new that. Special teams is a bit of a wait and see on all fronts.

as "thin" as we are at qb wouldn't we be better off with joe m. at qb?  doubt he even sniffs the field at te but at qb wouldn't he be a more than adequate backup for a guy just to hand off to santiago if keaton gets hurt?  doubt if heidelberg is ready yet and i still think joe is a better qb than bartels?

I don't think Joe fits Coach Rudy's offense. Studsrud is the prototypical hybrid duel threat that is required. Heidlebaugh is a better athlete than Joe at this point. He's one of the better athletes on the field anyway.  I feel bad for Joe because I liked him behind center. It appears that Heidlebaugh will get a shot until the kid from the Cities is ready or Bolinski blows up next year. And Brad H could be very good. It's just uneasy when you don't know what he brings yet. But I remember how we felt when Studsrud was brought in as a freshman. The sky was falling! The coaches see something in Brad H, in Bubba we must trust!

If all the QB needs to do is hand off to Santiago, why can't "Heidelberg" do it?

The Joe as QB ship has sailed at least with this coaching staff.
