Many of the long plays were when rookies were trying to defend. They will get better, and I also should add that on some of those long plays, in a contact situation, the QBs would have never gotten the ball off against the on-coming push of the DL and the linebackers around the edge. funny . . . we replied at the same time. again, thanks for the updates. season can't get here soon enough!!! PATRIOT Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Much Thanks Teeder for the comprehensive camp reports! Quote
Old School Guy Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 There will be times in pads when the rush doesn't get home...the DBs still gotta cover and contest. Its only day 2. Not panicked yet just commentary. Of course we don't want our QBs eating lunch through a straw either. Quote

Where do I send the check? Also - I heard Aplin has moved to guard with Rooney as the #2 center. It's early, obviously, but it sounds like there's going to be some shuffling around on the OL until the right mix is found. Stay healthy, boys! Quote
MoSiouxFan Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 Thanks again, Teeder. What a blessing it is to get your first-hand reports. Lots of stuff that we'd not get otherwise from other reports. Quote

Stay healthy, boys! That makes a lot of sense. Rooney was taking most of the snaps at center with the second stringers. I will watch for Aplin. Quote
Longtime fan Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Good write up Teeder. I made out there today not really focusing on any group in particular but noticed mason bennett numerous times. His quickness is just incredible! Man, the d line is going to be deep and talented! When he is in the game and you add disterhuapt and say jawon at OLB.....wow for speed speed speed speed up front!! The und students better dust off the sack city sign as I believe the opposing qb could very well be laying on his back most of the game. 3 Quote
77iceman Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Across the board . . . this UND team has a lot of speed. Can't wait for more practice reports . . . "Teeder Tales" Quote

Popular Post Teeder11 Posted August 7, 2016 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2016 Day 3: Sunday, Aug. 7 Let's cut to the chase. 1. DNP Heldgren, D. Harris, Francis, Seibel. Vashon Tucker is feeling better and back on practice field at safety. 2. Aplin indeed did take a lot of reps at left guard with the No. 2 Offensive line with Stiner, Rooney at center, Miller at opposite guard and Blair. After that it was Mortel, Tobin, Nguen, Hunt and Russo taking reps ont the line. 3. What can I say about Toivonnen. Are we sure he's not a RS freshman? He brought down a high throw over the middle with just one of his big paws. Like he was palming a basketball out of the air. 4. Studrud looked locked-in for the most part today. He seems to have really really good chemistry with all the receivers, but especially Clive, Stanley, Dulin and Carr. 5. As far as the best pass defenders today, that award would have to go to speed demon Garrett "Gee" Bollant, followed closely by Arnell, Torrey and Carr. Reyes was his usual solid self but didn't have as many opportunities today. 6. An interesting line up for the back-up secondary today was Holm and Randolph at CBs and Vashon and Canady roaming the middle. 7. I am trying to temper my excitement on Blackwell and Wanzek, but they, again today, had a really good practice as dependable role playing receivers with good blocks and pulling in tough balls coming their way. I joked with the Herald guy that, if those two continue their progression, they might be writing a little story about the "I-94 connection" of Blackwell (Dickinson), Wanzek (Jamestown) with Seibel (Bismarck). Don't sleep on Carr from Hazen, either! But that didn't fit my Interstate narrative. LOL! 8. Wanzek made his defenders look absolutely silly on a play, taking one the distance after a 15 yard pass from Hiedelbaugh over the middle. 9. Taj has the pick of the day with one that he snatched along the far sidelines and tip-toed along the line to keep it in bounds. It was reminiscent of Will Ratelle's pick against Northern Colorado last year at the Alerus Center. 10. Keelan Poole got in on the INT action, too, after Bolinksi's pass was tipped by LB Rodgers it was snatched up by Poole. However, Poole made a rookie judgement call to run it up field through a host of would -be tacklers instead of taking it to the near sideline. He'll learn to finish it right. With that ... I'll see you tomorrow! 8 Quote

CMSioux Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 If Taj is healthy he'll be all conference he had several games with double digit tackles before the injury. Great example of a kid who stuck it out during the transition. 1 Quote
geaux_sioux Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 So how about the punters? How do they look? They are the unsung heroes of the defense and are a major question mark going into this season. Quote

Again, hard to tell what a punter can do when nobody is in his face. Quote

A deep thud is a good sign. I usually arrive at Memorial Stadium right at 8:30am, and I believe the specialists do the bulk of their work before that. However, there was some punting to day in the regular session. We had two punters go today: Bolduc and Dussold. The kid out of Mississippi looked to have a wrap on his thigh and thus did not participate. Bulduc did just enough per usual, nothing to write home about but his punts tended to land in bounds more. Dussold produces the sound you were talking about, and he did force the returner to back peddle a couple of times. But his sometimes came off his foot funny. Niether were sticking them like Meindel tended to do routinely. Quote

SIOUXFAN97 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 as "thin" as we are at qb wouldn't we be better off with joe m. at qb? doubt he even sniffs the field at te but at qb wouldn't he be a more than adequate backup for a guy just to hand off to santiago if keaton gets hurt? doubt if heidelberg is ready yet and i still think joe is a better qb than bartels? 1 Quote
Parkers Pros Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 I don't think Joe fits Coach Rudy's offense. Studsrud is the prototypical hybrid duel threat that is required. Heidlebaugh is a better athlete than Joe at this point. He's one of the better athletes on the field anyway. I feel bad for Joe because I liked him behind center. It appears that Heidlebaugh will get a shot until the kid from the Cities is ready or Bolinski blows up next year. And Brad H could be very good. It's just uneasy when you don't know what he brings yet. But I remember how we felt when Studsrud was brought in as a freshman. The sky was falling! The coaches see something in Brad H, in Bubba we must trust! 1 Quote

If all the QB needs to do is hand off to Santiago, why can't "Heidelberg" do it? The Joe as QB ship has sailed at least with this coaching staff. 2 Quote
