SWSiouxMN Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 It wasn't pretty, but behind another great Hooker performance lead UND to take the first round game against SUU. Now they move on to take on ISU for the 3rd time this season. Winner of this game gets the Weber/PSU winner UND has never lost to ISU since entering the Big Sky, going 7-0. This matchup will feature two of the very best in the Big Sky in Telfair and Hooker and should be another battle of the guards. But UND does have an advantage in the forward and center position and needs to take advantage of it. Need to shake off yesterdays performance and try to recapture some of that play that was with them in late January. Other Games: Weber vs PSU 2:35 Montana vs Sac State 7:35 Idaho vs EWU 10:05 The call: The old adage that is believe by some that it is tough to beat a team 3 times in a season. How can UND avoid the trap? Doing what they have been doing against ISU. Keep the guards from going off, Hooker having a good game and an balanced attack from Drick and Geno. The first matchup was 84-76 UND and the 2nd was 76-60 UND. I think the game will lean towards game 1 than game 2 in terms of score... but the results will stay the same UND 81-73 Other games: Weber over PSU: They get a scare from PSU, but Weebs has enough to get the job done Montana over Sac: They too get a scare, but the Griz make plays done the stretch to pull it out Idaho over EWU: Toughest matchup outside of ISU/UND to call, I could see this go either way but Idaho at full health seems to be back to where they were at the beginning of the conference season. If McBroom goes off to help Jois, then the Ealges might have enough to beat the Vandals. 1 Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 To add to the intrigue, http://www.bigskybball.com/ Quote This is going to be a fun game. Someone who was at the North Dakota-Southern Utah game told me that Telfair (ISU’s players and coaches were, of course, at the game watching) was openly rooting for Southern Utah. These teams aren’t “rivals,” but there’s no love between the two. Quote
homer Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Some really good games tomorrow. I like our matchup with ISU. Crandall has to play with composure but also with that chip on his shoulder tomorrow vs. Telfair. In the other games I wouldn't be surprised if either UM or Weber got beat. PSU and Sac. St are playing very good basketball right now. The EWU and UI game is a toss up to me. Quote

The openly rooting for thing is interesting but I'd imagine Telfair and ISU would rather play a team they've beat by an average of 18.5 points in two meetings rather than a team they have lost to by an average of 12 in two meetings. UND held Telfair to 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting, do that again and I think they will be fine. Quote
Cratter Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I wish this game was today so it was 2 games, a day rest and two more games instead of possibly a game, rest day, and three straight games. Quote
siouxfan512 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Gameday! can't wait. Hope the boys not only beat ISU, but really get some momentum going to take into their next game. Also Go Portland St and Go Sacramento St! Quote
Siouxperfan7 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Have never lost to Idaho St. since joining the Big Sky. Let's not start today!!! #Hawkshoops Quote
jdub27 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Big game, perimeter defense needs to get back to where it was earlier in the season. I know some guys are playing banged up, particularly Geno, but can't let ISU get going from beyond the arc. Quote
UND1983 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Anybody in the know: why is UND playing so much zone now? Their zone is really average, to say the least. Seemed to play much better man-to-man earlier in conference season and it appeared very sound. Quote

SWSiouxMN Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 wow, what footwork by Drick 12-7 UND 15:46 1st Quote
Dagger Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Looks like we have a lot of energy today. Keep it going. Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Good energy to start. These announcers on Watch Big Sky are quite interesting.... I do like the color analyst though; he's entertaining. Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 McD with a chance for a 4 point play Quote
sioux24/7 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Crandall seems to make some boneheaded passes out of the inbounds. Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 TO Idaho State 21-9 UND McD 2-2 from downtown, 7 points. Forcing them into a lot of turnovers so far. Love the approach to ISU's zone D, put Drick in the middle of the zone and let him distribute. Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Shanks is playing with his typical lousy style of play. Too many turnovers. Thankfully, UND is hitting shots and Idaho State is turning it over too. UND needs to be more disciplined and secure the damn ball. Quote
jdub27 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 A great basketball mind told me that UND was going to work on taking advantage of the high post in ISSU's zone. Definitely seems to be the case. Quote
cowboys5xsbs Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Sloppy turnovers all around. We need to clean it up a bit. Quote
CMSioux Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I kinda agree with the announcers that it is a benefit to play in the first round and get comfortable with the court. This time of year an extra game shouldn't be an issue as far as conditioning. Quote
