Imagine having two Santiagos in the backfield at the same time! Studsrud wouldn't have to do anything but hand off to those guys. 1 Quote
Momster Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 I looked at the 2016-2017 prospect lists in Wiki. Where do the names come from and what is the level of interest of both the athletes and the coaches? 1 Quote

Players I list on Wiki are those listed on various recruiting websites which indicate specific colleges' interest in a prospect. Also included are players invited to various UND camps/games plus area players who may have the talent to play at the DI level. UND may be very interested in some of these players and have little interest in others. Conversely, a player may have a great interest in UND or they may have no interest at all. Of course, once a scholarship offer is made, that confirms UND is very serious interest in a prospect. Quote

K I know several of these boys and I know a few of them have visited but wasn't sure if offers had been made or not. Thanks Quote
UND Fan Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 If there are others that should be on the list, let me know. You certainly don't have to identify yourself but are you a mother to one of these young men? Quote
UND Fan Posted January 4, 2016 Author Posted January 4, 2016 First known offer: OT Alex Fenton, 6'5", 285, Menomonie (Menomonie), WI Quote

UND Fan Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 You probably prefer not to elaborate any further? Whoever your son may be, I hope he enjoys the recruiting process and ends up at a college where he can be very successful both academically and athletically. 2 Quote

Lots of coaching departures in these programs over the last two years since he's been going to camps. As a kid, there is a ton of truth to targeting schools you are actually wanting to attend for the long haul vs just playing a sport for because a sport can end any time for any reason. I think the biggest surprise to the family so far and especially my son is how much these coaches come and go and what some of them will say and how much of it is reality (or not). Just my personal opinion, some of the rules are more real now. Having just watched so much turn over in staffing that sometimes turns several times over in short duration makes it actually kind of odd they hold these kids to no transfer clauses so many times which stops them from moving on but they can move at the drop of a hat. He's looking for a stable program, decent school, nice town, down to earth, pragmatic, no nonsense surroundings and staff. UND was fantastic visit and he loved how down to earth and approachable the staff was. Impressed how much research the coaches had done on the visitors. 4 Quote
shep Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 UND fits the description of what your son is hoping for. I went there for 7 years (I actually received 2 degrees ) Bubba and his staff are the real deal... And they are here to stay. It seems unfair that the coaches can leave but players are supposed to commit! Quote

Well momster, I said all of my kids could go to UND, sports or no sports, and I would be happy. I can not say enough good things about the school, community, or staff. As a health care professional, I heard wonderful things about UND's medical and nursing programs. Every doctor or nurse who went to UND was EXCELLENT! If your son goes to UND, he will get a great education and play for a great football team. I am sure you will be happy with his choice, good luck! Those days in Feb. are extremely stressful My son had offers from 3 schools and the LOWEST $$$ were from UND ( they did add his academic $$$ and he got more). The night before signing I asked him what his choice was. He said a neighboring school which was giving him a full ride as a freshman. Then asked me my thoughts. I told him just one thing, "Son, I know you do not want to hear this right now but forget football. You need to pick the school that will give you the best education for what you want to do for the rest of your life." His response was, "Mom, then it is UND." Good Luck! 8 Quote

The ride overall just exploring playing college football has just been more bumpy than I think he was expecting related to coaching turn overs over overhype and what seems like program drama so I think I am actually glad of the lesson he pulled out of watching it all and what his friends have experienced so far which is how important it is to go into it trying to choose the right school fit. Sports and $ aside. That isn't to say any sort of $ wouldn't influence the situation for him and probably any other kid with the economy the way it is but what good is a full scholarship if you are miserable and the school doesn't have the programs you want to support your education and career with for the rest of your life? Popular Post Sioux94 Posted January 14, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 14, 2016 There are many great things I like about having Bubba as our coach, on top of being humble, respectful he is a North Dakota guy who truly wants to be at UND and is his dream job. This isn't a stepping stone for him on to other things, I truly believe he will be at UND until he retires. And with that being the case he is going to do things the right way and not cut corners. Those are great things, but you still have to have success......and based on what he has already done in two years I'm looking forward to years of great football coming out of Grand Forks again. 6 Quote

UND Fan Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 I have about 25 potential '17 recruits in which UND may have some level of interest listed in Wiki. I am sure there are ND and NW MN prospects who are not listed. Feel free to let me know who they may be. Quote

One thing that makes it obvious that Bubba is heavily invested in UND is the interest he shows in getting his players and other students to support other teams at UND. He really is the genuine article. 12 Quote

If you want to make UND athletics great again as a whole, you need the students to support the other students. That is, the student body really is the starting point of pride and energy within the stands. By telling his own players to get out there and support the other student-athletes, Bubba has increased both the level of support and competition on the court, field, and ice. I surely expect this to be reciprocated by the other programs/student-athletes in the fall, and coupled with the hype of last season's 7-4 record, 2016 should be a real fun year of UND Fighting Hawks football! 15 Quote

Popular Post Momster Posted February 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted February 25, 2016 One of the items that really stood out for the boys we know that have visited schools so far is where there aren't pro teams are the towns and the school attendees are very fun and vocal when they support the college teams. We keep in touch with other parents and kids and what they always mention isn't the weight room or anything very specific about the football programs but what they do mention consistently is how were they received when they got there, what did the coaches know about them (high marks for UND on this one) and every business, every nursing home, home, tailgating fun, banners from the light posts, even local logo tats that were flashed with pride. At one camp, the boys we know went to lunch in town at one college people walked up to their table thanking the boys for their visit and chatted with them as the kids had their football camp t-shirts on. Not saying it is a "hard criteria" on anyone's list but it makes an impression that is welcoming and makes kids who might be nervous feel good. It sounds random but that makes an impression on a kid. The coaches at UND seem to recognize that community support goes a long way and want to foster that. 6 Quote
CMSioux Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Fans gotta be careful though because according to the NCAA even saying "UND is a great school" to a prospective recruit is a violation. Quote
