he's got til dec 31st to prove SOMETHING or its time to move on...

What will he accomplish by December 31st?  Does a solid OOC record really mean that much?  UND's only chance to be legit this year is to win the BigSky tournament, which unfortunately doesn't start before December 31st.

DEC 31 is quite obviously completely meaningless.. amazing that somebody would actually think the basketball season ends on Dec 31

if und is 1-10 by dec 31st jones should be fired and see what an assistant can do for  the rest of the year....

With the money crunch we may be stuck with him.

New offer:

PG Tray Buchanan, 6', East Moline (United Township), IL  This kid appears to be very talented - unlikely we will land him.

Buchanan has committed to UND.

I guess that puts them at one over the limit for next season....Could be that Bernstine will be leaving as a grad transfer or one of the guards will not be back or a prior verbal is not going to sign

Tray Buchanan, East Moline United Twp.

This one is maybe the most perplexing of all. The highly-productive Buchanan, a 6-1 combo guard, doesn’t have a single offer at any level. None. It’s inexplicable. We’ll start with all the Division II programs out there across the Midwest. Are you kidding? Then we’ll go on to the low-Division I programs. There isn’t a single one in need of a tough, high-motor scoring guard who just goes out and plays?

Buchanan is officially in his own club as the Hoops Report’s best senior player in Illinois without a single offer.

As a junior he led UT with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals a game while putting up monster numbers in two sectional wins. And his unorthodox game is actually appealing to the Hoops Report as he consistently plays hard and produces.

College coaches do not like unorthodox players, especially if they are under 6' 2".

Buchanan is a scoring guard for Kingdom. He likes to slash to the rim and showed quickness and fearlessness in doing so. He has the upside to be tough in transition as well. Given his size and frame, Buchanan sorely needs to develop his on-ball skills so he can become more of a point guard than off guard. He certainly has the ability to get into the lane, now adding facilitator to his list of traits is most important to see a bump in his stock. Adding a more consistent jumper would help as well. Despite the flaws, Buchanan led Kingdom with 19 points in a win over Wisconsin Playground Warriors.

The three November signings are putting up some impressive numbers thus far this season:

Tray Buchanon,  United Township HS (22-4) - East Moline, IL

Averaging 21 ppg, leading team in assists and steals

Garrett Franken,  Atlantic HS (12-5) - Atlantic, IA

Averaging 24.4 ppg with 9.2 rebounds/game.. Shooting 50% from the floor, 38% on three's

Aanen Moody, Dickinson HS (15-1)

Averaging 32.5 while leading team in assists and steals

Great scoring from these guys (all guards/wings).  I don't think we have any scholarships available (right now, at least) but I sure wish we could find a talented big man to bring in for next season.

look to be guard heavy next season...Jones should have redshirted Walters since he is not playing him ...pretty stupid move by Jones .  Jones needed to recruit  a guy who can rebound .

I think Jones was going to do anything to try to keep his job, regardless of who he played or redshirted or sat. We'll see what happens next season, but right now, I'm having a lot of fun watching this season. That loss to NAU still hurts though.

UND's actually slightly positive on rebounding margin this year.

Not sure on the thinking behind Walters but seems like all of UND's bigs have been dinged up at one point or another this year and with the senior talent, you do what you need to.

We also have all bigs back next season which will be key.  Jones (or staff) will have to look at adding a F/C Juco in the next couple years to go along with Avants at the 5 and we will have Collins or Walter at the 4.

That lineup will be able to matchup in the Summit today, not sure how teams will look in '18.

Wonder how much Rolls-Tyson not working out played into that.

It probably was a factor but it sure would have been good for Walters (and the program) if he would have used a redshirt year to gain strength and weight.  Similar situation as last year, it would have been beneficial for Collins to have another year to mature/develop.

Just think if they would have redshirt Q, he was a freshman on the Senior laden Huff squad. Would be really nice having him as a junior this year.

Don't see the PF & C spots as a huge need for next year. Avants, Shanks, Bernstine, Collins all return. That's 20 fouls right there. Yes it could be better, but it also could be a lot worse.

If Walters continues to work hard that's another capable 4 man. 25 fouls to play with for 2 spots? You can easily win with that.

Goes largely unnoticed but Collins has really taken a large step forward. Saturday his numbers weren't eyebrow raising but his defense & versatility were a huge key in that win. Knows his role, moves well, is athletic, can defend 1-4, and rebounds. Bodes well for the future. Kudos to him for being that glue-guy.

Avants is a BSC 4 who is to short to defend the 5 and has problems on the defensive boards...the dude is not a legit 6'7"....Bernstine can rebound but does not score....Great guards ...very average front court at best

I agree - we could use some help up front. Would like better production rather than simply "counting fouls to give".  With two of them being seniors next year, it would be good to have some good young 4-5 position talent join the team soon.
