UNDBIZ
They mentioned on NHL network last night that BOS offered 6 years somewhere around $5.5 AAV to Hamilton, and he ended up signing for 6 and $5.75AAV with Calgary. It's possible the writing was on the wall that Dougie was looking for a change and they got what they could. The money wasn't that far apart. Add in Canadian taxes and he's losing money. Yes, it sounds like there was more to the story, and maybe Sweeney's hands were tied. In Hamilton's press conference in Calgary he was asked about him leaving Boston and he didn't want to comment about it. Another reporter then gave him the change to shoot down rumors that he wanted out, and he wouldn't comment. I would have hoped that Sweeney would have shopped him around a bit more to see what else he could have gotten, but it looks like he may have been handcuffed a bit on this. Ray77
Not impressed. Not what PIT needed. Agreed, but DaveK will be happy. Toronto has to be elated to get rid of Kessel. Good luck, Pittsburgh.

Ray77
How did the Wild let that former Goldie slip away? I'm as stunned as you are! As am I. But I suppose they have a former Sioux and Badger eating up any salary that they'd have for Kessel!
The Sicatoka
Crosby, Malkin, Kessel: That's just short of $25 million tied up from now through 2021-22. (And TOR is eating some of Kessel's or it'd be over $26 million!)

He will be allowed to use his offensive skills more with Jeff Blashill. The Wings are also close to signing Brad Richards.

The Sicatoka
Today's "Good, Bad, and Ugly": Good: Saad gets 6 years at $6 million per. I think that'll be a good deal before it's over. Bad: Ward goes from WAS to SJS for under $3.5 million per. He's a victim of the cap. Bad for him. Ugly: BUF gives O'Reilly 7 years at $7.5 million per. That's just ugly. I don't believe he's worth that, and it sets a very expensive precedent when they try to sign Eichel again in 3 years.
