ringneck28 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 This Midco broadcast quality is so bunk, can we get back the student run broadcasts? I even pay to have this on? Love the circle of sticks reference. Poor Cober had no idea what he signed up for. To bad a bad broadcast gets in the way of a good game. Quote

And they have a penalty clock.....which is rarely accurate or even up when it should be. Just sayin! Quote

Redneksioux Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I'm curious how a penalty clock that is linked directly to the Ralph Daktronics scoreboard is rarely accurate? No clue. It's not so much the time that isn't accurate......it's more of actually being up when it should.....and many times it doesn't identify the correct time on a 5 on 3 or different special teams matchups. Guess I shouldn't have said rarely because I've only watched a few games this year....but have noticed they can't get it right in nearly every game I've seen. Quote

If it's as simple as flipping a switch connected to the clock, someone is not getting it done. Quote

southpaw Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 If it's as simple as flipping a switch connected to the clock, someone is not getting it done. It's a matter of putting up the graphic the shows a powerplay/5on3/etc. The clock itself on the graphic comes directly from the scoreboard in the Ralph (there literally is a cable that runs from the scoreboard/clock system to the Midco truck) so if there are issues with the time on the clock it's because the time on the clock in the Ralph is wrong. I don't know (haven't noticed) if the clock has been wrong, but they frequently don't get the graphic on the screen, at least for a portion of almost every PP Quote

jimdahl Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Stop with the personal attacks people. Disagree with people's posts by debating them, not by attacking them personally. Comments on a public broadcast are probably on topic, but I'll give the same advice I do when anonymous posters start to get personal about players, coaches, etc... -- remember that these are real people who read, and whose friends and families read, what you wrote. It's possible to be critical while not being cruel. 3 Quote

And they have a penalty clock.....which is rarely accurate or even up when it should be. Just sayin! When I say video quality, I am talking about the production. Case in point, they went to break right before the "Circle of Sticks" IALTO Yes they did show it at the end, but that missed all the atmosphere in the building. Then when they did come back, they show 2 guys leaving the ice. You mean you can't roll tape and show more reaction? Also, one of my pet peeves is that stupid music when they are doing the keys to the game and recaps. Either pot it down or get rid of it. Some may call me critical, but that is my broadcasting background coming out. As a SIOUX hockey fan, I call for excellence in a program and that includes the broadcast. 1 Quote
sprig Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 The america one flash player expands to a full 16:9 screen while the neullion flash player leaves small bars on the left and right sides of the screen (not an SD 4:3 size but larger than that, but not full screen). Why is that? I asked neulion why the undinsider flash player does not, when expanded, fill the full 16:9 screen, while the america one flash player (Big Sky) does. Following is their answer: Thank you for contacting NeuLion Fan Support. The experience you get will differ from service to service based off what they have the capability to provide. As we have let you know before, UND directly controls their productions. The format they stream is controlled by them and we do not control that. We suggest you send this type of feedback directly to the university through the athletic website. It appears that neulion is saying it's on UND's end? Quote

sprig Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Are you saying you do not get a full tv screen picture? I do. No, I can expand the player to "FULL", but there are still small black bars on each side of the screen, and, of course, a control bar that does not disappear on the bottom of the screen. The Big Sky/America One player, on the other hand, that receives the same 16:9 Midco HD content (for BB and VB, etc), does expand to a full 16:9 screen, and the control bar disappears (reappears if you point at the bottom of the screen. I'm not saying that the neulion player is not showing a HD 16:9 screen, because it is, it just won't, when expanded, fill the entire big screen TV (unless I zoom or stretch my TV format, but I don't want to lose the full width of the video provided by an HD camera, nor do I want to skewer the screen, ie wide, short players, etc) One user here said that he gets a big screen TV filled using the iphone app on an ipad through the apple TV device (guess the apple tv air play is smart enough to figure out how to fill a big screen), not sure if anyone else can fill the entire big screen TV screen with the UND/neulion player. What are you using? I'm using a PC to HDTV hdmi hookup. Quote
