Alright...Alright....break it up.....

Can we just agree on these things and move on? Ohio St. is a bigger school with more alumni than UND. On a "national" level (all sports and university brand) Ohio State is bigger than UND and Minnesota for that matter. Ohio State isn't a hockey powerhouse and will never be on par with UND for history, program, and hockey following. everyone in this fight would rather see UND vs UM game outside, inside, or in a parking lot? all the other crap spewed here doesn't matter.

That pretty much sums it up.

The little man syndrome some of you are projecting is similar to the FU fan base. I believe his point was that, to hockey fans, yes UM-UND would be a much bigger and more intriguing match-up. To the casual viewer who wasn't going to watch (and probably won't regardless), seeing UM-OSU on the schedule would make them more likely to tune in because nationally, OSU is a more recognizable brand. They likely don't know that OSU hasn't been all that great at hockey lately, nor do they care, but they recognize the name. And to the point that the potential is there for OSU's attendance to grow is a very valid one. If they actually start winning some games, particularly against familar B1G opponents, people will start showing up. Everyone loves a winner, that doesn't change.

Edit: hrkac hit the nail on the head.

OSU had better hope the NCAA hammer never falls on its football program (I honestly don't know how it avoided more sanctions following Saint Tressel, Maurice Clarrett, and their antics, but obviously they're an NCAA cash-cow and we couldn't possibly let that happen, could we?) or its hockey program will be dismantled immediately afterward.

Blah, blah, blah... It's can't be all that great if they only averaged 4026 for four seasons.

In other words, you're not going to dispute the fact that OSU's home attendance versus Michigan and Michigan State was better than it was against teams like Lake State, Ferris, and Bowling Green. As it will likely be better against teams like Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Problem here is that people are trying to argue the point that OSU doesn't have a passionate hockey fan base.

They don't. But that is irrelevant in this discussion because they don't have to be.

Why?

They are a HUGE school in a HUGE market.

If 9 out of every 10 people in North Dakota's roughly 700,000 population is a hockey fan and 1 out of every 10 people in Ohio's roughly 10 million population is a hockey fan, who has more fans? Here's a hint: It isn't North Dakota.

Same goes for student body and alumni bases. Ohio State's is much larger, this more to draw from. It doesn't matter if Ohio State's fans are less passionate.

Give a fan base like OSU familiar rivals to watch their team play and the attendance will rise. People will tune in. They aren't a hockey mad fan base and won't watch regardless of the rival, but in this discussion (whether or not they will tune in to watch an outdoor game at Minnesota) they will be playing a familiar rival in a big game.

Unfortunately for your argument, the Ohio number is closer to 1 in 100 and most of those are Penguins fans who don't care about college hockey. As for whether or not OSU fans will tune in for the game...... they won't.

So what, it's still below par...

We're going to need to see a link, because you just pulled those stats out of your ass. I would say 1/2 - 3/4 of the UND fan base no longer lives in the state of ND. So, what you just said there is fluff or filler.

You really are suffering from Delusions of Gradeur. OSU has had a hockey team for how long, never did anything, and now all of a sudden, they're going to rise from the ashes and have a huge following... History doesn't back up that statement. Now, if it's football, OSU is good with winning and scandals.

Now you're projecting Skippy. You’re trying to come off like you’re some kind of a genius, but no matter how you look at it 19th for a school the size of OSU is pathetic no matter how you slice it, and they're big ten school and all they can draw is 4,000, yet were told that they're a bigger deal than say a UND which averages 10,500 per game and led the NCAA in attendance last season. You brought up SCSU, who's a very small school. You’ve got nothing.

You do realize SCSU has more students than UND, right? I'm not sure I would qualify UND as "a very small" school.

Little hockey talk, anyone surprise that UW Is picked ahead of umtc? Not that it matters much but didn't see that. I have minny winning this conf with mich, uw behind them. BC and Lowell out east and Mankato in the WCHA

I was a bit surprised by that as well, although Wisconsin put on quite a run the second half of the year and UM did not. I think it would be fair to say that Wisconsin exceeded expectations after Christmas, and Minnesota did not meet expectations after Christmas. That has probably carried over into these first rankings.

How can you call someone out for "pulling stats out of their ass" and then doing the exact same thing in the next sentence?

12-13000 students compaired to 40,000+ sure, it would be.
