SWSiouxMN Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 Pour one out for the conference of champions. It's sad isn't it. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 I did not see Washington and Oregon gone before Arizona. Reports are ASU got squishy last night. I bet they're signing the BXII app now! Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 I won't be surprised if Cali-Stan ends up not in the B1G, but the ACC. Stanford would be bait to try to keep Notre Dame ACC affiliated. Quote

It was accepting that assumption along with the cost that caused me to pause. I would guess all four Dakotas are relatively close in the all-in attendance cost, so if they were all fully funded, then approx 200 athlete-students would put them in the ballpark of the $6 million. Unfortunately, the accounting is college athletics is too opaque across the board to draw truly meaningful conclusions unless you are a forensic accountant. I could be wrong but I don't think Pell grant $$$ is included in the knight data (taken from ncaa financial reports). Treatment of FCOA could also potentially be different. Quote

The Sicatoka Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 The tweet with Brutus Buckeye and the Oregon duck back on July 25 ... hmmm ... Has all this been pre-ordained and they're just putting on a drama. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/2023/07/25/cryptic-post-with-ohio-state-buckeyes-and-oregon-ducks-mascot-draws-big-ten-questions/ Quote
cberkas Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 This sucks, Larry Scott being the most inept commissioner of the PAC-12 and basically killing the conference. I hope everyone realizes later on, that they should have all stayed in the PAC-12. I can see USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon not doing well in the B1G and part of me hopes they are on the bottom of the B1G. On the Dakota 4, if the option to go FBS is there and UND is ready they have to take it. 1 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 4, 2023 Author Posted August 4, 2023 So Cali-Stan and WasSU/OrSU. How long are the Silicon Valley smugs going to stay with the unwashed of Corvallis and Pullman? They were palatable when USC/UCLA/UW/UO were around to talk to at cocktail parties, but now? Quote

I think there is a real possibility of Cal and Stanford going Indy in Football and the true shocker of the Ivy League for other sports. They are schools first, and the Ivy brand is even stronger than the Big 10. Quote

cowboys5xsbs Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 So the mountain west and pac have to merge now Quote
The Sicatoka Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 Apologies to George Strait, but ... Pacific 4 by morning ... Quote

None of them are that flush; if they do something they do it as a group. And will Cali-Stan be in a group with Boise State and Wyoming? Quote

They have an $18M annual mortgage payment on their FB upgrades. (That's 60% of UND's total athletic budget.) Cal went to the UC system regents and made UCLA give them some money when UCLA left ... The Sicatoka Posted August 5, 2023 Author Posted August 5, 2023 Cali-Stan only sees two conferences worthy of their great and magnanimous presence: B1G Ivy League You might be able to sway me to add the ACC to the list. They will not be associated with Boise, Wyoming, or KState and WVU. 2 Quote
SiouxScore Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Oregon and Washington will reportedly get $30 million in B1G revenue distribution. Basically B1G found something on the clearance rack they couldn't pass up. Quote
