The Idaho board reports their AD is saying the Big Sky and WAC will exchange teams .

That would be required if Summit Football League forms with the Montana's and Idaho and a new WAC FBS emerges

Sorry Volley, but even me this time feels obliged to say "link please".

Don't hold your breath...

The only talk I saw of any conference stuff was some comments about setting up divisions in the Big Sky for football and playing a championship game. The problem with the theory is they completely forgot to include a team and you can't play a conference championship game in FCS if you want to be eligible for the playoffs. So I'd take any "reports" with a huge grain of salt.

You do realize it is Christmas Day?!?! The Sky is not falling, the WAC is not crumbling and there is no merger talks.....

spartypants @WACspartypants
@UTRGV_AD any truth to the claim that Idaho AD says wac and big sky discussing merger?

Like an AD has absolute certainty that there are no WAC / Big Sky merger talks.   Never said they would merge.

So some random person on Twitter asks the Grand Canyon and UT-Rio Grand Valley AD's if there is any merger talks with zero sourcing and somehow that's the Idaho board reporting the AD is saying that? Unless you have more sources (like the actual link where someone "reported" it), the mental gymnastics to get from A to B on this one is even impressive than normal.

Hold on. You're saying spartypants is not a reliable, verifiable source???

Twitter reports the the CWU President wants to build up their facilities to FCS capacity for a CWU DI move.  The Big Sky would have to split for that to be allowed.

Link? And why would they have to split? There was no intention of that when it was announced Idaho was coming back and UND was still in the league. If they were invited, the league would be in the same spot as they would have been without UND leaving. CWU would actually get them back to an even number for basketball.

It was in a tweet without a link to anything. I wouldn’t call the Twitter account that tweeted it a good source.

CWU is making plans for facility upgrades.  The rump of the Big Sky will need more teams.  Evergreen St has melted down, and CWU has seen an increase in enrollment of those trying to avert snowflake students and professors.

You posted a link to the news page of the Ellensberg, WA newspaper, not to any specific story that might validate your claims.  You might as well have just linked to "this reputable source here."

The Ellensburg paper details the facility improvements CWU needs for DI and the Big Sky.  Why weren't they an option when UND joined? Because the research schools didn't want them.  The research schools will be gone by the 2020-21 season when CWU joins Portland St, EWU, UNC, NAU, and SUU.  Watch for news about Dixie St,, Azusa Pacific, and maybe Simon Fraser too.  They will be stuck in DII without fb opponents if they dont move up.

I'm guessing they are talking about how small the GNAC is - that is the conference that Central Washington is in, and if they lose another school they will be in really tough shape with only 4 teams for football.  Can't have a conference with 4 teams.   Dixie St joined the RMAC, though, so they won't be affected.  Simon Fraser, Humboldt St, Western Oregon, Azusa Pacific are the other football schools that would be affected.

The EWU board is taliking like CWU in the Big Sky by 2021 is sure thing.  For that to happen, the research schools have to be gone first. The Dakota's won't allow Augustana in either for the same reason.  Chaves  had to leave because he knew the Big Sky's future was ominous.

I didn't see any of that.

One has to understand Presidents reaction to this, which they have known for years.  NMSU got $24 million in earned media from their appearance in the lowly bowl in Tucson.  It is exactly the placement they want -a lowly Dallas or Phoenix Bowl would be good too.  A Great Northern Conference needs to get nearby bowls in the US Bank stadium in Minneapolis and in Seahawks Stadium in Seattle.  That is exactly the kind of bowl they want, and bowls and cities are happy to oblige.  NMSU gets more than double that earned media from the FBS regular season.  FCS teams don't get squat.
