Asking someone in the know I'm not in the know, but PrepDig is at least a good reference. Not every state does PrepDig rankings, but many do now. I couldn't say on your Canadian recruits, but it looks like your setter might be the star of the class. #9 2023 player in Minnesota, #2 Setter https://www.prepdig.com/minnesota/rankings/2023-rankings/?position=S The Libero looks like unranked, but listed as the #16 Libero in California https://www.prepdig.com/california/rankings/california-2023-rankings/?position=DS/L I don't see the MB on the Texas list, but it is a big state, and you can only scroll down so far without a PrepDig account https://www.prepdig.com/texas/rankings/2023-rankings/?position=MB I don't have a PrepDig account, but I find these pages by directly searching Google for "2023 player rankings (state)"... 3 Quote
siouxvblove Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 According to instagram, there is another recruit for 2023. @kenzel on Instagram. Looks like we will have a full roster next year. She is a libero/defensive specialist from Colorado https://www.ncsasports.org/womens-volleyball-recruiting/colorado/broomfield/broomfield-high-school/kennedy-nelson1 Quote

Does she have ties to North Dakota? Looks like another good get for the volleyball team. Cant wait to see where Coach Tupac can take this team ! Quote
iramurphy Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Jamestown’s McKenna Nold sets state tournament record with 39 kills against North yesterday. She was WDA player of the year. Great athlete, quick, jumps well can set. Some say best VB player in state. Wanted to play at UND. Are we that good that she couldn’t play here? Quote

So many kills are when she’s in the backcourt. She was a setter last year. They got beat tonight but she was best player on the floor. Maybe too late but I think she could play for us. Having said that our coaches know the game and I would think better judge of talent than I. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Nold was very impressive - not much to not like - very powerful and agile for a six footer - for my untrained eye could compete at UND 1 Quote

loyalundfan Posted March 24 Posted March 24 One middle, Trinity Blackwell, just committed to Texas Women’s University. Haven’t heard of any others, but could happen in a few months when spring is over. I think they have a freshman on campus this spring though. Mariana Riviera. Not sure what position, though hopefully middle! Quote
undVBfan Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Scrimmage tonight at 7 PM against Bemidji State. If it is like last year they will likely play at least 4, and probably 5 sets, regardless of scores. I suspect everyone coming back will play, and they might be "creative" with the subbing. 1 Quote
SIOUXFAN97 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Still have faith in the Tupac(s)..…. But have to wonder if Faith is chomping at the bit to fix this mess?!?! Quote
loyalundfan Posted April 17 Posted April 17 How did the scrimmage look? I was hoping to make it but no dice. Quote
undVBfan Posted April 22 Posted April 22 First, scrimmage against NDSU on Saturday. It looked like a scrimmage against BSU. Everyone played, which is what I expected. Obviously they need to get better everywhere, as does everyone else. :-) I think the coaches were more interesting in seeing everyone in competition than winning the "match." Thoughts from last year, looking forward include: Need for outsides who can terminate out-of-systems balls. We can't always count on a tempo set against a single block, sometimes we just need to be more physical than they are. A legit backrow threat, something to take the pressure off the outsides when the pass isn't perfect. It's been years since I recall having someone hit out of the pipe as a first option. Maybe the junior college transfers from Eastern Europe (or wherever) that played for Prior? The middles are where I see the most work to be done. We lost 2 experienced, 5+ year middles. That is going to be a challenge to replace for this next year. Being an effective middle blocker is SO much more than the number of blocks they get. They need to be physical enough to be a legit threat when set, and to be able to slow down the other team at the net. Quote

Lexi Robinson before her was also good in that role. Quote

Tough that NDSU couldn’t come, would’ve been a better judge of where they are at. Defense and passing looked pretty good. I like our setters! Middle might be the weak link unless they have a stud transfer portal or freshman coming in for the fall. Right now there is 2 on the roster, ones 17 years old and the other will be a junior, but blocking looked to be a struggle for both of them. Otherwise looked pretty similar to last fall. Seems to want to run a 6-2 and set quick to each pin and quick tempo in the middle. McCallister Gayle and Ashlynn Olson were absent yesterday but still on roster. Any info on those two? Quote

undVBfan Posted June 18 Posted June 18 I pretty sure Olson is gone, grad school at Colorado State (I think). De Jong is in the transfer portal. Not a complete surprise, given the limited amount of playing time to date. Haven't heard anything about Gayle. Regardless of anything else, I hope she's healthy. She would definitely be a plus, if available. Harper, the middle transfer from U Mary, should help. The competition in the Summit won't be substantially better than what she saw from the best teams from the Northern Sun. She should bring some much needed experience to the middle while the middle recruits get up to speed with the college game, literally and figuratively. Quote
