brianvf Posted Thursday at 01:33 AM Posted Thursday at 01:33 AM More on recent commit Thoreson: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-commit-beck-thoreson-is-not-a-typical-big-guy Quote Thoreson joined the U.S. Under-17 Team this fall and committed to UND this week. Braceful said UND is getting a unique prospect who has a high ceiling. "The sky is the limit," Braceful said. "He's 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, but he skates like he's 5-9, because he's light on his feet, he pivots and turns so well. He's not your typical big guy. When you see him, he jumps off the page right away because of the way he can skate and handle a puck at his size." 3 Quote
nascar99 Posted Thursday at 02:15 PM Posted Thursday at 02:15 PM Cooper Simpson leading the USHL in scoring has not been talked enough about, including by me. He's really rounding out his game nicely in junior, which was one of the main objectives. Love it 3 Quote
ChadR Posted Thursday at 02:54 PM Posted Thursday at 02:54 PM Hopefully he can be a 15 goal guy for us next season. Quote

Love it Would imagine he will be taking Strinden’s #21, and most likely will be on the top power play unit as well. He seems to be doing really well on the power play for Youngstown. 2 Quote
beastandco Posted Thursday at 05:43 PM Posted Thursday at 05:43 PM Schloss was very complimentary of Beck Thoreson in this week’s podcast. As of right now, the plan is for him to be here for his draft year which would mean he is pretty high end. Still a long way to go but he is definitely a valuable piece for the future. 3 Quote
atxsioux Posted Thursday at 10:09 PM Posted Thursday at 10:09 PM Think Schloss had 1 scout tell him that he thought Thoreson was the best D-man on the U-17 roster as well. Quote

Like the highest ceiling or highest in his draft year? Diego Gutierrez is widely considered the top 09 dman. But, they are in two different draft classes. Quote

When doing his recruiting list this summer, Schloss was asking around about some of the defenseman on the NTDP U17 team. One scout said “You haven’t even asked about the best one yet.” That being Beck Thoreson. There is some room for interpretation on what exactly he meant by that. Diego will probably be a lottery pick in 2027. Speculating about where Beck will get drafted is premature. A lot can happen over the next couple of years. He’s still an exciting get for the future. 3 Quote

Thoreson is a high ender for sure, I wasn’t doubting that for a second. And when it’s all said and done, he absolutely could be the top 09 dman. But as of today, it’s Diego. That’s fairly known actually. Again, things can change (and they do ). All in all, im glad we got a high ender that’s local! 2 Quote

Those were his finalists. I'm sure other schools also reached out. Some he probably had no interest in. Some maybe didn't offer right away too. He just started talking to schools on January 1st. He's been taking enough classes that he's now considered a junior in hs so was able to commit now. His recruitment process was rather quick. 3 Quote

atxsioux Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Him having the family ties with Schneider likely was writing on the wall for any schools outside of UND and Minnesota schools to be considered for finalists. Would be the same story for us with a kid from Boston with family ties to BU/BC. 2 Quote

Schools east of Lake Michigan don't usually watch a ton of Moorhead Bantam AA unless we're talking about a generational/franchise player, which Thoreson isn't (right now) or those staffs have coaches from Minnesota/North Dakota Quote
Wilbur Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Just checked Grubb at Shattuck and pushing along at a decent pace for the prep team. If someone could talk to the Hale kid about his commitment to CC..... Quote

With CHL silent commits and the portal there are a few matriculations I just can't imagine happening. 1 Quote

I thought Jundt would have more success in Calgary. Got some more time to grow as he's only an 08 I guess. Quote

SiouxForever Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Penner was an interesting commit. I believe he’s a few years out, but UND will get a CHL/WHL defenseman or two for next year still. Not sure what they saw in Penner, not to rip on a kid I’ve never seen live in person. Quote
