  1. So Coach Brewster has had a bad year, followed by a Big Sky Tourney title, followed by a late season collapse, followed by this start...hot seat? gfhockey, what say you?
  2. This omission today hurts. But the statement that the Big Sky didn't have the respect of the committee. And if you would look at the Big Sky's track record in recent years- I've come away with the opinion that the league has been extremely soft in the FCS Playoffs. The Eastern Washington's and Montana State's like to thump their chests about how big and bad offensively they are- for the points they put up...but they get exposed at playoff time- which is what has been the refreshing thing about Bubba and his staff's philosophy in building this program. Today however- just doesn't feel very good. Day by day.
  3. Pat Sweeney says that UND has put in a bid to host a playoff game at The Alerus Center if indeed UND makes the Play-offs.
  4. I thought that James Madison beating Villinova would be helpful--however wasn't thrilled to see Richmond knock off William&Mary. I was big on Southern Utah beating NAU, because- Southern Utah isn't just a Co-champ then-- instead they win the Sky outright and get the auto bid. I just can't see NAU getting around with us with 6 D1 wins. It's going to be interesting.
  5. It took 3OT's for Florida Gulf Coast outlast Youngstown State tonight.
  6. I agree with this. Because I actually prefer a later afternoon start. But what I've been told when I've asked that one of the other considerations is the 1pm starts are also for Midco to be able to avoid Root Sport broadcast windows. As I guess we can't televise the game if it's in the window? Not sure if this is accurate or not. But I do at least understand then...as we do need to get our games broadcast out there, for exposure.
  7. Just got back from Montana. Hadn't been to a UND road game since the NCC days. Too bad the the game went the way it did. Just a couple of observations. It has become apparent that our WR's can't beat DBs in one on one situations. We don't have a guy that stretches the field well enough nor guys that are shifty enough to create space on their defenders to really give a QB, any QB for that matter, much to throw to. I do however fall in the "let's see what Molberg can do"camp. But quite honestly, opposing DB's find us pretty easy to defend when they don't have to worry about being beat deep. We tried throwing some deep routes, but it is evident that we have nothing there. So, I don't fall into the category of blaming the play calling. I see it as more of a personnel issue. Because if I was calling the game as an O-cordinator and I see a defender in all our receivers back pockets- it might just effect the way i call plays. The defensive secondary-- i will say this, just make sure you at least make a tackle...so the offense is forced to at the very least snap it again- that was frustrating to watch plays that yes, were big plays, but should have been tackled well short of being a touchdown. Good and passionate fanbase out there...could do without that damn cannon tho.
  8. This is another good example of why I don't miss my Herald subscription. Sadly both my family and I do from time to time utilize their website...although I usually feel disgusted with myself for giving them that all important -click-.
  9. Anyone have any dirt on Anna Burleson? Or for that matter any employee of The Grand Forks Herald. Maybe its time to start putting the shoe on the other foot...hey if you don't have any dirt on them just make something up...that's pretty much what the Heraldo does now days anyway.
  10. Did we dim the lights during our national championship season in the Alerus? I'm thinking no (correct me if I'm wrong)... we had a good atmosphere then and not nearly as nice video boards etc... IMHO- Win, and the atmosphere will be special. I'm getting old, I don't want to go to outside games in November...I will go to the Alerus in November.
  11. This is in regards to all sports- pick of a DLineman that usually Montana gets, a WR that Eastern Washington typically lands, a qb that Montana State can get to sign or a power forward that Weber State basketball typically gets enrolled...it won't take long for some of those schools to start changing their tune. While I believe we continue to try recruit the areas which have been our strengths over the years, now with this new ability to emphasize FCOA, I think we should definitely stick our recruiting noses where our Big Sky brethren have had success in the past and see if we can pick off a few in as many sports as possible.
  12. UND rallies to beat defending Big Sky Regular Season Champs Montana today. 2-1 the final. 2 Freshman factor in the scoring. Great win!!!
  13. This is just awesome... and so accurate. I haven't been able to stop laughing for 10 minutes.
  14. I could see the possibility of Men's Swimming being on the block, while Women's stays. Again, I'm just thinking it will be tough to get to the ratio needed for Title IX complicity, by cutting any women's sports. Football, as much has been discussed still counts 100%, that I'm aware of or maybe not. (I may need correction or direction on this). So the only way to get to where they need to go, if they are indeed looking at sports needing to be reduced is on the men's side of things.
  15. Very few Women's Sports need worry. Title IX is the great protector of them. Baseball & Men's Swimming are the 2 that will have to get the hard look.
  16. No doubt a tie. And the shed isn't big enough.
  17. This will be interesting to see what the response is from UND, USD, SDSU, but also the Montanas. If only a 3rd of FCS schools follow suit, does that mean the other 2/3 take their ball and go elsewhere? Do the FCS schools that choose to match NDSU in this, are they more competing against the MAC schools etc? New division? Lots of questions.
  18. Saw on the news last night that the team has returned home. When do they get to start practicing again?
  19. I asked one of the assistants before they left while waiting to pay for gas, what they thought the competition would be like. He said it was impossible to tell, sometimes teams get over there and it's dreadful bad competition, other times the teams they are matched up with can really challenge you. I hope its more of the latter. Also, maybe these majors Marquette, Georgetown etc...are playing more of their rosters (minutesr/rotations) as compared to UND. Tough to really know.
  20. I think it's apparent that even though losing Tyler a year early was a bit of a disappointment this Baldwin kid is proving and hopefully will continue to show some serious upside. I know next to nothing about him, but so far so good. So, Back court wise, things appear to solidifying around Hooker. Still concerned with the big men inside. Bernstine's name has popped out a little in these games, but very little from Cashman and Shanks. Whether by committee or by one guy taking the spot, we need a strong inside presence to at least give our guards a little more space and at the very least an outlet threat for them to deliver the ball to, if this team is going to make progress this year. Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised with the results from these games but we won't know if they've been of full benefit until early March 2016.
  21. Sorry, I hit the wrong button, I agree with this take- meant to give you a plus 1 in rep on this, but inadvertently hit the -1 one. I think from now on I'll just use the reply +1. Technology (headshake)
  22. 3 things that have to be addressed, in order to be better this year. 1. Defense- (that also means getting the rebound to end the possession) 2. Late Game Offense- believe it or not, the offense worked for a good portion of games that we were in last year. It crumbled inside the final 3 minutes and that helped turn a few W's into L's. 3. Big Men- Catch the Ball- Hooker will find you, even when you don't think your open- he will see that you are, and put it in your hands. It should be a summer of working on hand eye coordination. Catch the ball and you may end up with quite a few easy ones throughout the year.
