  1. Wow, apparently I was at a different game tonight. UND had many open shots in the 2nd half that they flat out missed- Coaching. The offense worked to get open shots- they were just missed....but I know, everything is broken. Our half court D was really very good---not coaching. We rebounded far better tonight than in other games--not coaching. We also have some guys that just need to stop giving the ball away in certain spots of the floor- thats......wait for it........ coaching. It led to easy hoops for Montana. Yes, I know it must all be coaching instead of just some execution. When they win...it's despite coaching when they lose- it's coaching. When I wake up in the morning- its coaching, when I nearly got slid into the other day- its coaching. I finally figured out how this works. Its very easy. I feel better already.
  2. Why don't you call over to the basketball offices and ask them. But don't be "that guy" that makes a call and inquiry that doesn't give his or her name...just sayin.
  3. My question still remains, unless we are getting a boatload of money like Kansas, Louisville, Michigan etc... which I've been told we are not, what difference does it make? If Starbury's came in and said we giving you 1 million dollars a year and providing gear for all the programs, then I would say everyone, football, underwaterbasketweaving, etc is wearing Starbury's. I heard they make an excellent hockey skate by the way But to my knowledge that isn't what is happening in this instance. Why not let each program go get the gear they like? What this whole discussion has devolved into is both funny and sad at the same time. So many have got to get their dander up at the silliest things.
  4. That is such a bizarre criticism. you have the money you have, thus you have the budget you have- what is he suppose to do, go shake the money tree in front of Hyslop for bigger budgets? Yes, you're right he purposefully made the coaches work with D2 budgets cause he thought that would be such a fun way to operate. Yes, that makes a lot of sense.
  5. I just have a feeling with only an 18 game conference schedule and 1 more team in the conference, there might be a multi team tie at 8 wins for the 8th spot. Maybe 9 and you're out of a tiebreak and in as the 8th team. I just have a hard time thinking that the 8th team in standings will be .500 in conference games this year.
  6. We only play Idaho once and we won, so we would hold a tiebreaker over them if we end up with identical conference records. That's why this weekend is so important as well, as we also only play Weber and Idaho State once. If it get's down to the end of the season where 2 or 3 of these teams are all hovering on 7 or 8 wins, it would be good to own the head to head with as many as possible.
  7. Another interesting thing comes to mind regarding this stipend issue for me, is this final bullet that the Portland State administration uses as the reason to axe football? It's barely hanging on as it is. This might just be the final straw for them to say we don't need the headache of football anymore. Especially, if some Big Sky schools do indeed choose to go to a stipend.
  8. Just some additional insight regarding student-athletes, getting summer work. Let's say a business I know of in town, was going to hire a couple of basketball players a couple of summers ago. They wanted those players to work 7am to 2pm, primarily Monday through Friday. What happened was that basketball players couldn't do that shift because of strength and conditioning on a fair amount of those weekday mornings. So then the idea was to have them do the 2 to 8 shift on those days, and now with college basketball the players can be coached 2 or 3 times a week in skills sessions with a coach and a group of 4. That was scheduled in the afternoons. Plus they had team pick up games X amount of times per week that were "strongly" suggested. So as the business- they had to go with someone other than the athletes because the other job candidates (non-athletes) could be available during those shifts. Those are common obstacles for today's student athletes getting summer work and potential employers who are looking to fill those jobs in the summer. Not saying it can't happen, but it certainly challenging in today's day and age.
  9. I think it was his way of cutting both baseball and basketball or baseketball.
  10. Yes, because he was such a rebounding machine in the last game--(1)? Hate to tell you this, but all 3 of our guards have been bringing something 2 the table, and need to be on the floor. De Rouen, is energetic and if watch closely, he knows what we are suppose to be doing on D, not just him, but the entire team. Defensively we are much better team when he is on the floor, because of his on ball pressure up top. When he's out, that's when our D has looked the shakiest to me. Hooker, has been playing well since conference play started, you can't take him out. And Tyler, has shown what he can bring. Against Marquette, SDSU, and Northern Colorado, he has shown that he gives a multidimensional scoring threat, even in a game he struggled to score himself, he showed the ability to get others involved with 6 assists v. Montana State. Maybe we should be talking about swapping Coleman for Nash? But at the same Coleman sometimes he too can get lost defensively which basically in that swap is a wash. I'm not blaming Coleman as that's not unheard of when you come to a new program.
  11. When Coach Jones was on with Tim&Swyg this morning, he said Cashman suffered a concussion during a rebounding drill at practice a couple weeks back.
  12. It would have been helpful to have Shanks available for that game, not that it would have changed the result completely. But it may have reduce the margin somewhat. It may have helped against Mo Walker. We didn't have a player that could slow him up inside on that night.
  13. Actually, I was following that chat he did say a little more. He said he was aware that the Football Team was trying to get a deal directly through Adidas for Football instead of going through a 3rd party as they have been in the past. He said he wasn't aware of any department wide deal, and that he didn't care what brand teams wore.
  14. This^ he wasn't what a person would consider a "Big Man" He may still be the most athletically gifted player to take the court at UND...at least in my opinion.
  15. For what it's worth- most programs at our level don't get cash with an apparel deal. Usually from what I understand most deals are set up with you get X amount in this apparel and you agree to buy X amount additionally from the company at X rate. This is not something where an Adidas comes in and writes a check to UND Athletics for even $100 or even a $1 for that matter. That only happens for to the big institutions ie. Kansas, Michigan as you listed etc. An old college roommate who now has worked at 3 different schools of varying size in Athletic Business told me that usually, the Athletic Department had spent nearly as much as they did when they had a contract then they did without. They've evaluated many times if it's worth it or is it worth for each program to go find what they want. Just some info. I don't know if there is any money involved in this potential deal, but it would shock me if it did.
  16. Home games against good competition are lost in little details. Layups/close proximity shots are a concentration thing on the players. I look at it this way, obviously the offense worked well enough in those instances to get us those looks--they just have to be finished. So I'm not sure that that the offense is as much one on one as some here are alluding to. Make those shots and those all would have been results of team play, instead we missed them. We only had 4 turnovers the first half, but the ones we had were dreadful and led to easy ones for Sac St. Rebounding, you can tell the staff has worked with the guys to get themselves positioned right off of misses- either UND's or the opponents, but their just not coming up with the ball. At that point a player has to have a little desire, and attitude to go get the ball. I tend to believe the first 2 items hurt us more last night than did rebounding, in this specific game anyway, as Sacramento State doesn't miss very often for us to get a lot of rebounds off of misses. I'm from the school, that you don't take a timeout at the end and don't give the opponent time to set up. On our last actual offensive possession, not sure I want Nash taking the shot in that set, due to his recent struggles....but that's hindsight. Definitely a tough loss. I saw the women got beat last night too, but I'm not seeing a meltdown over on that thread.
  17. Flip that- he had a career high against Montana in the loss, he fouled out against Montana St, but that's partly because on the radio they said he was having trouble moving due to some severe back problems.
