  1. I don't give a rip about music and video boards and when we won national title, it's not like we were taking the field with the lights off. People came because the team was dominant and was doing special things. Bells and whistles are just that. The biggest thing that will affect attendance will be having success. And now having been to Missoula last year and having seen what supposedly all these other schools do...and supposedly a good one at that. I didn't see them doing too much different than what we do, with maybe the exception of a horse taking a big steaming dump on the field before the opening kick off. I'm not sure if that is in Montana's marketing plans or not...but it happened. They did nearly the same silly games, walked out people for acknowledgement at the same times and piped in nearly the same music at the same times. It seemed to be pretty much the stock college football show that is out there now days. Again, I didn't make noise on every 1st, 2nd and 3rd down against UC Davis on Dec. 1 2001 because I was told to, or prompted to. I did it because I was into it, and so did those who were around me.
  2. It has been interesting to watch over the years how many assistants have went on to get head jobs or other significant jobs at different levels.
  3. Are you stating this as a fact? I'm just curious, I had not heard this reported.
  4. Additionally, When MBB beat Louisiana Tech and Bowling Green at The Betty a few years back. All schools are looking for non-conference wins in the months of November/December. Once the word gets out that you are not an automatic W- especially on your home floor...opposing teams begin to look elsewhere to find those wins if they can.
  5. These will prove to be big games for not only us...but for The Big Sky Conference. The playoff results against other conferences in recent years is becoming alarming. Winning these games against other conferences is pivotal for all of the Big Sky brethren.
  6. From what I understand is...for what other schools want to come here, is not within the financial window the team has access to.
  7. I may be so bold to state that even some people may actually prefer it now, even though they voted for Fighting Hawks.
  8. 2 Months to the day. A little Anniversary reminder. Great way to brighten up any day. They put the radio montage that ended the radio broadcast up on UNDSports today. I hadn't heard it since that night.
  9. Question what will the ROOT Sports window be? If we hope to have our game on TV... which I'm sure we would and Midcontinent would as well, it will have to fall outside of the ROOT/Big Sky exclusive agreement. (I'm paraphrasing what I either read somewhere on the forum or was told at a fan luncheon by an athletics staff person- can't remember which-I'm old). Personally, I like 3 or 4pm games because it allows for ample tailgating plus finishing Saturday morning youth activities, and at the same time I can get the family home at a decent hour or we can even stop somewhere for dinner, but because ROOT only shows mountain & pacific zone games it seems (sigh). I would assume my times more often than will fall in their window. Play whenever. 11a, Noon, 1p, 11p...more often than not we will try find a way to be there.
  10. Actually the family and I took in the Marquette/UND Basketball game at the Bradley Center a couple of years ago. Never once heard anything about the Warriors. Not once. And the only reference we saw was my daughter in the concession line asked me about someone in line who had a Marquette Warriors sweatshirt on. I asked her at the end of the game how much Warrior apparel she counted she said 5. I only saw the 1 she pointed out at the concession stands. So from my experience in Milwaukee, together we saw very little of Warrior gear and absolutely no mention of Warriors in cheers. Just my personal experience.
  11. The only thing that I tend to be wary of when I hear news of a conference getting larger at our level and Fullerton has said it himself, when conferences get too big that is when they fracture. For example the WAC many years ago, many schools left to form the Mountain West etc... Not saying there will be, but sometimes when things get to a certain size, various members will be less than enthusiastic about some of the things that occur because of it. Maybe some schools get frustrated because they only get Montana or Weber State on the schedule once a year instead of twice in basketball. Not getting a home game, with the perceived big dogs can be a big factor for a lot of schools because that may be one of their big attendance games of the year. The same could happen with football, where various psuedo rivalries that developed when the league was much smaller no longer are regularly scheduled can wear on both fan bases and athletic departments. Not saying something catastrophic will occur and if it did I don't envision anything for several years down the road but it's best to constantly have the (little birds) out. (Sorry Game of Thrones reference) Because history has at least shown that when conferences get to be on the larger end of the spectrum...things can and do happen.
  12. That was the song that was used with the video at last night's celebration with the video. But definitely not the one that was used for the radio montage on Saturday night. The family and I stayed in the car as we pulled into the garage. It was excellent. Don't know the music that was used tho, sorry.
  13. Plus it's been nice in recent years to leave a late meeting in Fargo and be able to pick up and listen to a basketball game starting in Fargo and listen all the way home to GF. I wasn't able to do that 6 or 7 years ago.
  14. Does UND have a radio partner in Bismarck- yes. So does NDSU. Both are in Devils Lake etc....we can on and on. Typically, when I've been out pheasant hunting in North Dakota...I can get the game. So when it comes to listening to games throughout the region...I've never had a problem. And I listen a lot, because of work and fun I travel a lot. But you seem to be concerning yourself with talkshows. That's a different animal all-together. Since UND doesn't actually have control over the programming of these stations in Fargo, what do you expect? I think if you feel that strongly that those stations need to be talking about UND more often on those stations- then talk to the station programmers. They probably will have more insight of why they program the way they do on their stations than I or UND ever will.
  15. Has our Football, Hockey and some basketball had signals in both Grand Forks and Fargo for the last several years? Yes. Has NDSU had a Grand Forks partner the last several years for their sports? to my knowledge- no.. I fail to see what you are getting into a huff about
  16. WDAY is not our "Flagship". First know what flagship means. The Flagships for UND are in Grand Forks. WDAY is an affiliate...there is a difference. And when we were on KFGO back in the day...they too still talked about NDSU because both stations and groups are based out of Fargo. That's a reality they know there are listeners who follow UND in Fargo and NDSU in Fargo. And if they are doing there job whatsoever in regards to programming they are doing their part to cater to those listeners.
  17. I never made any comment about this team. I am aware the 2 teams are different. I've been enjoying watching this current team. I just find it interesting how its so fun to rain on a group that had to start during a challenging time... the D1 transition. And when it was done, the first year in the Sky, they made the conference semis, and played a heck of a game (their junior seasons) To my knowledge the UND Women didn't even make the tournament that year. The next year, they were a banged up team that made it to the conference championship game- and unfortunately got beat. That was a group that by and large when they were recruited most likely weren't high on many other schools lists, because had they been- why would they have selected a school that was going through the transition to D1? They came and wore the jersey and doggedly chased the ultimate goal the 2 chances they had it and I have respect for that. That's all I'm saying. But I get it, you're probably one of those people that don't and won't give that group any credit...I just refuse to fall into that category.
  18. For as selfish as everyone makes out the Huff, Anderson, and Webb era to be. It might be shocking to learn that Webb sits 2nd all time in assists and Anderson sits 6th.
  19. I heard some of it. I would agree. When Kolpack, started telling a story about how some recruits father had called him because they wanted an objective look at the program, I just have to laugh at the self importance of a person like Kolpack. In a round about way he was basically taking credit for landing the kid. Yes, thank you Kolpack for reminding us how important you are to that program...then I turned it off.
  20. You implied that we don't run an offense. "Finally found a team that runs less of an offense than we do" From what I've seen this year, I don't view that to be the case. I thought last night was a good example of that, as well as the last couple of games, which includes the loss to Idaho. I freely admit that I am no basketball expert. I just like going to games and watching. I basically on a rare occasion share what I observe. Now that's not to say what I observe and what others observe will be the same. But anytime someone retorts "don't tell me about the concepts of basketball" which basically means "I know a lot about basketball-- wayyyy more than you", which I always find to be a funny claim by any poster, because this an anonymous forum, maybe a person does, or maybe a person doesn't. It's fine if you do know more by the way, you most likely do... but is it ok if I still attend games tho?
  21. Hit a close to the mark, did I?
  22. Perhaps Montana State was having difficulty with their perimeter screening, because of how UND was defending it? That may be a novel concept for you. With so many players with limited college game time this year, how as a fan did we not expect to experience growing pains at points during the season? I've made my peace early this season, that there are going to be moments of shear frustration, as they figure things out sometimes sadly the hard way, and sometimes showing they are actually getting it. I for one did see a pretty good offensive attack last night. Many times the extra pass was made to get to a better shot. The other thing I learned, is that if Crandall can begin to replicate that performance on regular basis- all of a sudden this team has given itself far better chances moving forward. Also, Seales has shown the ability to find his game at the right moments late, to get our 2 wins at home. I notice you weren't on here afterwards after the win against Eastern Washington giving the staff props for adjusting to the Eastern Washington zone and inserting Seales to work in the post and get catches in the lane where he can go to work and be his most effective. Last year, the team gave us all reasons to complain. Can't deny that...and the vitriol lobbed in their direction after last year, is for the most part deserved. But this year when I go to games, I see a team that is really trying to be just that---a team. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not as much- but I look at this group as a bunch of players that have some good talent at least trying to figure it out. Offensively, last night I thought it worked. And the other thing I've noticed is that this team is starting to buy in on the defensive end. You don't see that with a lot of teams that come in here from our conference.
  23. Beat down today. Not so fine when conference play started. This team has been dreadful going back to the last 10 or 12 games of last season. They had one good year because Madi Buck had a special season... Otherwise consider me not impressed the last 4 years
  24. Dale Lennon?
  25. So you are saying I can't say or shouldn't say "Go Hawks" at UND events? Because even though this wasn't the name I picked, this is my University, and it's now the nickname...so I intend to use it, plenty.
