James Madison won the DI women’s lacrosse championship today.  Guess even FCS schools can win against the big boy or girls.

Yale win the men’s lacrosse title for the little guys over Duke!! First title for Yale.

Albany was also a top ranked team that Yale beat in the semis..

Calling Yale "the little guys" in a sport like LAX is funny AF.

I was going off of what SV said about James Madison. Another FCS school beat the big boys. Yale won their first title against a team that won 3 of them since 2010. Yale 9 appearances, Duke 22. I think you have Yale mixed up with someone like Syracuse or John Hopkins.

Yale is a top 5 school in America...located in Connecticut.  No, I don't have them mixed up with anyone.  That's lax country fam.

Grand Cities Lacrosse Association, kids from Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, Varsity team defeated Black Hills (Rapid City, SD) today 10-9 to win their second Dakota Premier Lacrosse League Championship in three years.  The Grand Cities JV team defeated Watertown, SD for the JV championship.  The 14U team defeated Black Hills for 3rd place, and the 12U team defeated Bismarck/Mandan for 3rd place.

Next up for Grand Cities Lacrosse are some summer tournaments and day camps here in town.

Given that the sale of Ray Richards is all but assured, UND should just bite the bullet and dive in with both feet. LAX is less niche every day, and will bring eyeballs. Would not want to cede it to the Bison.

Do you really think the administration would want to deal with the PR nightmare associated with canning Baseball, Swimming and Diving, and Women's Hockey only to start a lacrosse team?

No bigger a nightmare than closing Ray Richards and repurposing the gifted land, in the process alienating the GF golfing community.

Assuming a cash infusion from the sale, why not invest in a program that is gaining significant traction, especially at the local youth level as highlighted by OP.  Build for the future.  At last report, traditional sports such as baseball and football were hemorrhaging young participants.

closing ray richards alienated the GF golfing community?  a stretch at best.

Its not UND's job to make sure there are enough places to golf in grand forks.  maybe if the park district had more than one focus, (hockey) they would have forseen such issues.

Do you golf? Do you talk to golfers?

This is ALL you hear at Lincoln Park.

And why would the city invest (waste) money in developing golf courses when the market was adequately served? As far as I know, UND closing Ray Richards was not on the radar until quite recently.

Yes, 3 x a week.

maybe there is a shortage for casual golf, but its still not UND's job to provide it.  EGF, manvel, crookston and larimore would be happy to fill that role.

Just curious how many parks have frisbee golf? Maybe the park district could turn Ray Richards into a Frolf course.

That land is too valuable for that.  There's at least three frisbee golf courses between GF and EGF.  I think they serve the need for both cities quite well.

Moorhead HS is adding boys and girls lax in 2019.

It would be nice if East Grand Forks sponsored a team, and the GF HSs co-oped with them.

Coop option is interesting as already they do swimming, wrestling, and gymnastics co-op on ND side. But i don't think EGF has numbers to do it. Baseball didn't even start until like 6 years ago. EGF already has too many sports for size. TRF is bigger school that offers less options for kids. Travel is also a killer. To many long trips.

BTW boys volleyball is now going to be Minnesota high school sport. It will be interesting to see if anyone outside metro adds.

Maybe EGF can start it, and GF boosters can help pay for it.  Lax needs a HS league to flourish.

Here’s a Star article about boys HS VB.

http://www.startribune.com/boys-volleyball-gets-a-foothold-among-minnesota-high-schools/479934373/

Girls volleyball now has the most HS participants of any girls sport in MN.  Also, for the most part, colleges need men’s volleyball for their women’s team to be champions, as the two seem to go hand in hand.  The HS boys aren’t sponsored the the MN HS league yet, but by a regional volleyball association.  Have long thought Men’s volleyball would be a actual crowd pleaser at UND, and it doesn’t take many scholarships, but more local players are needed.

A little public input might help.  A few letters to the Editor of the GF Herald could help.
