Midco let go the talent only as common in the industry and made them contracted employees.  GF still has full time employees working out of the office.

Thanks smartass. I don't drink coffee in any form just Yukon Jack neat.  Makes me ornery especially when I cannot watch UND football.  If Midco had any smarts they'd hook up with a station in the MSP area where alums from the Dakota schools are very concentrated.

Ah yes, the almighty "industry standard". The all-purpose excuse when extreme cost cutting blows up in your face and you don't like the heat you are getting from the viewing public.

And please no comments from anyone about how Midco Sports is a net money loser for them so we shouldn't expect much in the way of quality from their broadcasts. If it's such a financial burden for them, why don't they just pull the plug on it entirely?

My thinking is, either do it right or don't do it at all.

With the chance of being curb stomped - in my recollection there hasn't been consistent issues with football broadcast, not the way hockey streaming broadcasts have been. Yes I agree taking 3 hours to discover some rookie plugged something in upside down is intolerable, but I'm gonna wait until it happens as often as hockey before I light my torch.

Lets be real here. Und has a history of viewership blunders. Its not a conspiracy, it happens over and over and over again and I for one won’t be shocked by the next failure. There’s been a single consistency this whole time and it has  been midco.

 

Or maybe it’s just a grand forks thing, where we’ve realized we can’t have nice things. Most restaurants fail. No local news stations left. Maybe UND fans are willing to accept mediocrity just like the rest of Grand Forks has.

I did a bit of searching and the FB team record since going D1 is roughly 106 and 97 including win last week over LIU. That's 19 years I believe.  That includes regularly playing teams like Valparaiso, Drake, and a few others that are pretty soft.  That record is pretty atrocious compared to our neighbors to the south.  It appears that the program is on the upswing with new coaches, facilities etc. Are we going to upgrade our regional and national exposure as well or continue to provide mediocre tv, radio, and press coverage and just accept it?

Other than the LUI mess up by Midco last Thursday what other complaints are there with Midco?

 I don’t have a dog in this fight but certainly enjoy as a Midco consumer all the UND coverage. Heck at times watch the USD and SDSU coverage.

Agree.  The UND/Midco relationship is here to stay for some time.  If I recall Midco produces the 701 and Through These Doors programming for UND.  Talk to anyone with Midco locally and they bend over for UND.

Completely agree with your post on Midco coverage but last Thursday was a big mistake.
