Kevin G Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Cool story by Wodon at CHN. The 1982 national championship game between UND and Wisconsin holds a record: "The participants in that game, combined, totaled the most amount of future NHL games played of any Frozen Four game in history. And it's not close — 10,264, among 21 players." 3 Quote

He had back to back hat tricks to clinch the WCHA regular season in Grand Forks ... that weekend featured a Badger hanging from the rafters in the old Winter Sports Building ... right in front of TV cameras (genius!) so it couldn't be missed. After Miracle on Ice, recruiting got much MUCH easier and interest in NCAA exploded. UND an early beneficiary, as was Wisconsin. (Took Major Juniors a few years to sweeten their packages and retain more talent.) Plus the game featured Gasparini vs Bob Johnson, two of the all-time great coaches. I like that Gino has the edge head-to-head vs Badger Bob. The other part Wodon DIDN'T write is that the 81-82 UND team played 5,993 of that total, which I believe is the highest ever for a single team in NCAA history. 4 Quote

That would be quite the college hockey conversation. Quote

Watching the cameraman shimmy out on the beam to move it was unforgettable. I think those games were the loudest the winter sports building ever was. 2 Quote

When DU won the first of their recent titles after many years of frustration, most of us were very happy for him. During trying times, he always managed to stay on the high road—a true fan of college hockey. Now that DU has become a perennial force, Puck can go ahead and suffer with the rest of us—more this year 😁. But I meant it when I said the two of you would have a lot of hockey memories to share. hawksfan12 Posted Sunday at 11:29 PM Posted Sunday at 11:29 PM here's a question...assuming UND doesn't win it, whats the order of Frozen Four teams you would prefer win the title from most tolerable to most annoyed if they win? Quote
