The problem is this...North Dakota lacks coaches with the exception of the east...every kid in the west who's parents think the have a chance in literal hell of going somewhere in hockey don't play high school...Last two years in Bismarck, at least 10 kids gone before they touched HS ice...BHB has 900 youth hockey players...now you need to put that money into building a coaching pool that makes the talent stay...from youth to high school...Bismarck High School coaches (Legacy + BHS) aren't getting it done enough to make delusional parents believe it's worth it to play high school hockey at all...not even for a couple years.  Eastern teams have 4 guys that have played college hockey on the bench...we have nowhere near that...time to put our money behind our kids and see where they can go...

I don't think the Bobcats help with this, they will take the talent from all three schools.

You perked my interest with this, so I researched the ND HS coaches and where they played in college at all levels.

East you have Skarp at UND,  Paranica at UND.  Metcalf at Mankato.  Klein D3 with a few different stops.  Metz D3, Olsonawski at Crookston.

West you have Willert at Omaha, Faragher SCSU, Grubb at Wayne State, Davison played for the Pats and then collegiate hockey at Manitoba, Stillwell D3, Miller at Bottineau, Tschida at Umary, Dora a cup of coffee in the ACHA. Federenko at Duluth.

I had no idea the head coach at Williston was the captain of the Bulldogs.  You learn something every day.

OK, I screwed up.

I was surfing UND and Augie and Spuds and NCIS and Iron Chef America. I saw Spuds go down 4-1 and never surfed back.

Watched UND highlights, some more Chef, went to bed, turned on radio to hear the weather, and there was Steve Hallstrom talking about how Arnold got stronger as OT went on.

Before I heard final score I knew I had erred.

IMO, the real issue in ND is AA at the youth level and one class at the HS level, and I don’t have an issue with either, but think about it this way: In MN if you play youth “A” level. You can still play the towns and associations that you will play in HS class A. AA associations typically play AA in HS (some smaller towns opt up from year to year like EGF).
In ND you could be Grafton and have a nice A PW and Bantam team but never play against the best AA kids that GF, Fargo, Bismarck, ect have to offer. It’s a speed of play, speed of decision, and creating space issue. At HS level Fargo waters down with so many HS’s. Bismarck too. Minot should be better than they typically are. But in reality everyone is playing for 2nd or 3rd behind pick your GF team from year to year. Unless a Grafton or Jamestown can get every athlete in town and play AA on the way up, I don’t see this changing.

I think Skarperud had a post about GF being in 63/68 state tournaments somewhere on some platform after the ND title game this year. Idk which one, maybe Facebook?

One plays makes a team?

who hired the refs

He's talent is hands down way better than any player at GFC.

So there must be a lot of Fargo families whos son is good at hockey and say "let's go play for moorhead."

Which i guess helps Grand Forks even more win championships? ....and conversely Moorhead.

Im not complaining.

All these High School hockey championships centered right around GF!

Warroad, Central, Moorhead

I guess we know where the real "state of hockey" area resides!
