They just did it to us a couple years ago when we were the #6 overall. With bracket integrity it would have been #11 but instead we played #10 Michigan.

@ND_Texan

Except we were 6 and could not play #11 Omaha and Minnesota was #7 and could not play #10 Michigan so it was a pretty simple swap.

The stated purpose of the NPI is for rating and NCAA tournament seeding. I think they will honor that purpose UNLESS it results in a repeat of a first-round conference matchup. I'm good with that.

Placing a host school at their regional site is pure bullsh*t and the best reason to do away with regional sites and go to home schools based on NPI rating (hopefully next year). I hope we avoid that bullsh*t this time around.

Agreed on the host site and neutral sites just in general. But the NCAA has swapped within seeded bands for attendance before and will not blink twice before doing it again.

Their double standard of keeping ore-determined neutral sites but sacrificing  bracket integrity for attendance is a special level of audacity but too many coaches still oppose home sites.

That’s fair, that’s my bad. But if you pay attention to the CHN and USCHO guys who have watched the committee for years, you’ll know that the committee will swap within bands to boost attendance. Which is simply crazy.

Agreed.

The other thing that I have always questioned is they get so hung up on the 4 team bands. They will swap a 9 and 11 or 10 and 12 but would not dream of swapping a 12 and 13 who might be closer number wise than the other teams they are switching.

If BC beats UCONN and UMASS beat BC for the Hockey East Championship, than Michigan beats Ohio State,  Augustana would move to 15 and in.  Oh and also Princeton or Clackson can't win ECAC.

I've already written Augie off. Hope I'm right. I hate their style of play (Bemidji-esque).

Would Mankato beating St. Thomas also come into play in that scenario?

I don't think so.  Winner of that game is in and the loser in out.  Doesn't look like it has any effect on Augustana.

What is the source or this image?

via Ticketmaster, this image has a lot less available seats, ~50 among the high lighted sections

I think that's just for ticket packages.  It says 2 events included and they are $131.  If you buy the days separate on TM, they're $150ish.

Does it really matter who we are paired up with in our bracket?  Are we that afraid of certain teams?

That is the attitude I am adopting on this issue:

Whomever we have to play is who we'll have to beat.

I think the past decade of ineptitude has given our fan base serious insecurity issues.

I pulled it from Ticketmaster, just looking at the Session 1 tickets.

Any NCHC team could easily end our season.  Someone pointed out that to compliment Michigan's typically potent offense, their defensive numbers are also really good this year.  Other than that, losing to any other team would be a tournament failure.

Parity has made this a complete crap shoot the last 15 years or so.   Providence, Union, QU and Yale have all won titles in that span.  20 years ago we would have given our right leg for a chance to face one of those teams.

Denver has three titles in the past eight years (not counting the COVID year in 2020). So I guess they didn't get the Parity Memo? 🤔

Denver also played some really tight games in those championship years that easily could've gone the other way. Single-elimination tournaments open the door for a well-coached team or a hot goalie to steal wins.

Yes, and this what I love about the tournament, too.  And I have no problem with those aforementioned schools winning titles.  I would cheer for them playing anybody but UND.

The Holy Cross game, as embarrassing as that was for Minnesota, was the tipping point of this.  Not to say Holy Cross could have won the Natty that year, but after that, #4 seeds not only only beating #1 seeds, but also winning it all, became normalized.

A few weeks ago my biggest concern was not being in the Sioux Falls regionals as they play on Thursday and Saturday and I have a work meeting on Friday I can’t miss. IE: I’d be able to watch the game. At least now we can be happy we are in SIOUX falls
