sioux rube Posted Sunday at 11:08 PM Posted Sunday at 11:08 PM Bill Guerin deserves a lot of credit. He built a winning team. Maybe not the 20 best American players, but the 20 that fit the best and could win. He added grit instead of glitz. Going 18/18 on penalty kills, including a 90-second 5v3 in the gold medal game is the mark of a good team with grit and toughness.

Do you know any names of players who may not have made the cut for USA (or Canada for that matter)? Just curious.

Cole Caulfield, and Jason Robertson were two big ones for the U.S. that were left off for players with a different skill set. 2

Just curious. Hutson (there were Canadians saying he should use his Canadian citizenship), Robertson, Fox (not even sure he’s in the top 10 American defensemen), Caufield (these are the main snubs), DeBrincat, Tuch, Pinto, and Boeser (these 4 could play roles on the team like Nelson and others). I’m sure there could be more. 1
cberkas Posted Sunday at 11:28 PM Posted Sunday at 11:28 PM Forgot Knies and Cooley, both hurt or at least Cooley is 1

cberkas Posted Sunday at 11:31 PM Posted Sunday at 11:31 PM USA Hockey really never gives the 1960 team enough respect its all about the 1980 team. 3
sioux rube Posted Sunday at 11:38 PM Posted Sunday at 11:38 PM Funny he had no complaints after beating the Czechs in overtime during 3 on 3. And if I remember right he had a minute and a half of 5 on 3 and came up empty 2

The 1980 USA Olympic Team will always be relevant. This isn't even up for debate. They're golden legends. 1
SIOUXFAN97 Posted Sunday at 11:44 PM Posted Sunday at 11:44 PM wish the 2 coaches would've approached each other after reg and said/asked "5x5....winner takes all? f the rules...you in?" 1

siouxweet Posted Monday at 12:39 AM Posted Monday at 12:39 AM Can a portion of the media actually get the facts correct. Yes, 46 years ago today the US beat the Soviets in the Miracle On Ice however this was in the semis and they won the gold two days later. Some are saying it was 46 years ago today they won their last gold medal. 4

Not knowing the Russia game was the semifinals is ignorant and lazy in the context of today. But you know this is what the MSM does...right? 2
cberkas Posted Monday at 01:12 AM Posted Monday at 01:12 AM It's framed that it was for the gold against the Soviets. If they would have lost to Finland in the early game, it would have been a foot note in hockey history. Looking at how the medal round was played that game for the most part determined the Soviets might not win the gold. Also, even if everyone in the media said that wasn't the gold medal game most people wouldn't listen anyway. Plus, the feel-good narrative of capitalism vs communism would be ruined for some.

JohnboyND7 Posted Monday at 06:33 PM Posted Monday at 06:33 PM Curious if there will be a surge in youth numbers or any sort of future value that can be derived from this. New ice sheets going up all the time. Would be nice to see the US start get some more kids playing over the next 5-10 years.
