iramurphy Posted Saturday at 11:39 PM Posted Saturday at 11:39 PM Nothing is guaranteed in this conference. We started our first series with 12 guys in the huddle. That is a QB fundamental, don’t step into the huddle until substitutions are complete. I don’t know if that rattled Jerry but he wasn’t himself. He ran well but he missed too many open guys. (I was afraid Bike Guy was going to post videos of his bounce pass or one of his overthrown balls to open receivers). Having said that, Jerry didn’t lose the game for us. It was a team “effort”. Penalties hurt us all afternoon. The other turnovers (blocked punt, fumble for a TD). Hurt us. Missed tackles hurt us. Poor coverage on KO’s hurt us. It adds up to an embarrassing effort against a capable team. Beating SU is possible but it will take a mistake free effort and we can’t turn the ball over. This week will be a big challenge for the staff to get these guys focused on a mistake free complete game. 3 Quote
F'n Hawks Posted Saturday at 11:56 PM Posted Saturday at 11:56 PM Jerry just needed a little bit more on that throw to Tai and it’s an easy TD. Quote

Hawkster Posted Sunday at 12:06 AM Posted Sunday at 12:06 AM At least we won't have a Bubba style meltdown with 5 loses to end the season. That said, NDSU is probably going to win next week unless something absolutely magical happens. Quote

Jerry played poorly today. He missed too many open receivers and threw 2 interceptions that he normally wouldn’t. (His 3rd and 4th by the way). He is our QB and gives us the best chance to win. I expect him to play well next week. 2 hours ago, Kab said: Who coaches punt protection seems like he is so slow, getting the punt off The Coach didn’t coach our player to do a “look out block” that’s on the blocker who wasn’t even a speed bump. Punter needs to sense that rush though and should anticipate needing to get off a quick punt. 3 Quote

Popular Post Hans8891 Posted Sunday at 12:29 AM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 12:29 AM Today was definitely not our best effort. We can argue with play calling here and there but this game was lost on turnovers and bad penalties. It was not Jerry’s best day without question. He had all kinds of opportunities that he didn’t connect with and the god awful throw away floater that cost us at the end of the half will likely give him nightmares for a while. Until now he has been very good. I have every belief he will come back and play better next week. We had some very poor tackling and angles we haven’t seen much of this year. It happens. We went from being an unknown before the season to a genuine contender. Back away from the ledge. Schmitty will get them ready to go. It will require an exceptional game to get a win over the Bison. As much as it pains me to say it, they are very good. But it is at home in the Alerus and not out of reach. The other two are very winnable games. Need to get a big and loud crowd next week and not let anyone hear a word Payton says and not just on 3rd down… 1 5 Quote

I assume you mean deflections. If we have footballs defecting to the other team, we could be in trouble. Those are interceptions for other QB’s, they are interceptions for Jerry. It doesn’t matter anymore you have your own world you live in. Jerry will play better, we need everyone else to get better too. 1 Quote

ND-fan Posted Sunday at 02:35 AM Posted Sunday at 02:35 AM This was team loss and team I bet you was more than focused on SU this coming everyone thought we would beat this team. I don’t care what anybody thinks but instead of taking care of business we got distracted and South DAkota came out punched in the mouth further throwing us off our game. Coaches can say and get on players but if team get distracted there’s not much you can change coaches and player almost got it back but that has been difference between us and SU they have enough talent to come back game like this. That is why they have won like they have. We have enough talent to beat them but we will need nearly perfect game. We’re far ahead of where I thought we would be in first year but I still think our time is coming in next couple of years if we can retain our players and our coaching stafff. Quote

Also no matter what they may say publicly the NDSU playera may be way underestimating the home team next week after this loss. Coaches might be aware enough to know that good teams can get awoken to be even better after a tough/bad loss but college age players could see it as they had no problem with USD in their matchup and they whopped #2 SDSU and mentally not be prepared, no matter how good they area.
