I’m really hoping we get Carels…or crazier yet DuPont. I do think Carels may help the team more next year though. If neither, Chyz needs to find two more really solid dmen.

Really hope Chyz snags at least one of the remaining Big 3 dmen.  If not, it'll seem like a slightly "disappointing" offseason without landing a single big whale from the CHL.  As I mentioned in another thread, I like all the additions so far.  But after the wave of excitement when Cole and Keaton committed last year at this time, it would be a little crazy to not ride that momentum and land some more CHL studs.

Remember we have MacKenzie coming in.

Assuming we land Carels we will almost certainly have 3 players on the Canadian WJC team.

Not exactly sure about the other schools but maybe 1/2 other teams in the country can match that? Maybe Michigan and Michigan state and that's it?

It could be proximity, but I find Minnesota professional sports fans to be the most annoying. I know fans of many professional sports teams, but Vikings and Wild fans are easily the worst in my experience. They win a few games and they are Super Bowl bound or Stanley Cup bound and rub it in the faces of other teams' fans, and they lose a few games and they want to fire everyone, blow up the team and complain about how the refs always single their teams out. It is the same every year, and the announcers like Paul Allen and Kevin Gorg are just glorified cheerleaders.

PA's schtick has worn thin and Gorg needs to just leave those eyebrows alone.

Some will agree, some will disagree, but I'm hoping the NCAA's proposed eligibility changes either don't go through or men's hockey gets an exception to remain as is. The junior hockey development structure (& thus NCAA Hockey structure) would be knocked off its axis if you forced the NCAA eligibility clock to start at age 19. You'd limit careers quite a bit IMHO

Agreed…This would probably feel different for me if so many “in-the-know” folks weren’t confidently sharing the equivalent of a silent commit all the way back to Brad when Keaton and Cole first committed. Now time’s ticking and suddenly everybody is tempering expectations instead and Jax is filling the roster with solid transfers. I’m sure the team will be fine either way, but hard not to feel some letdown if Chyz doesn’t make at least one splash.

I'm with you on all fronts and think most/if not all can agree. I know I've been beating a dead horse saying this so often but I just don't see how any of this was our plan a few months ago when we told O'Neil and Pilgram they weren't ready. Again I understand portal adds for the guys we lost in the portal but just can't believe we didn't have anyone lined up to replace the remaining forward spots. What really confuses me is why we felt we had to complete our forward roster so early as I thought leaving one roster spot open later into the offseason was going to be commonplace moving forward with the CHL open? I guess let's just hope it works out on the D side!

I think the discourse has been pretty good on this topic. I understand the feeling people have of; I thought this was going to go a different direction. Those with that opinion, I think the feeling is, not that it's a bad direction, just surprised. Fun part is everything can change with one commit. You get Carels, that's a game changer (or any of the remaining Big 3). What if your next two commits are Carels and Fitzhenry (even if he's for 2027)? Different energy.

(This likely isn't the case) But there is still a slim chance that the staff could decide to carry the roster as so:

  • 8 D
  • 16F
  • 3 goalies (with your 3rd goalie being a DSA and not counting towards the 26 player cap)

Obviously in that case you would still need 1 more forward.

Also thinking it through and this is nothing against Schultz, but Connor Davis very well could have been an Ashton Schultz replacement and we just don't know that yet. (The staff has already de-committed 2 of the previous regime's forwards so it's not out of the question they do that with Schultz). Schloss has reported Schultz is coming but again our staff keeps things very close to the vest....

Stole the thought out of my brain.

Not a difficult trick.  It was sitting there all alone . . .

I think we're underestimating the amount of tampering these CHL kids are getting, unfortunately. Most of these kids know where they are going, so leaving an empty spot may hit every now and then, but likely much more rare.

The DSA was last year only (can’t name someone DSA), they should just make goalies exempt to roster limits.

There have to be quite a few playing d3 etc from last year though. Seems somewhat feasible to find one this offseason. We’ll see how it plays out

The roster limits and portal are topics at the coaches' meetings in Florida. I expect a change in both when the meetings end.

DuPont and Rudolph's teams both won Game 1 in their WHL playoff series.
DuPont with 1g/1a in their win and Rudolph 2a in their win.

Hopefully Jax and Co has been able to schedule a campus visit with Carels.
