I'm confused by how many people think Raboin is inexperienced? Six years as an Assistant at St. Cloud,4 at Minnesota. Was widely known to be the recruiter that brought in a number of the studs that St. Cloud and Minnesota got. Only real thing he had to do to prove himself is take a Head Coaching job and he's nailed that so far. I remember when people questioned giving Carle the reins at DU having never been a HC and he was technically "less experienced" than Raboin is now.

If it's not at UND, he'll be the next coach at Minnesota or St. Cloud; whichever opens first.

I think it's also worth noting because there is no reason anyone would know this, but I think for the first four or five of those years at SCSU Motzko was the head, obviously.  Assistants were a brand new Raboin and Mike Gibbons who was there forever.  This would lead one to assume that Raboin was the third man of the staff but that's not how it worked.  Gibbons was a tremendous coach and recruiter - he's responsible for all those Nordic guys who scored on UND or kept UND from scoring.  But he was happy with his role and Raboin was Motzko's right hand from the day he was hired.

wow...wow...wow...how about Big10 programs, hockey East programs...ECAC programs, NOT a guy from Augustana.  And I'm clued in with Chippaz from 06-10 for the record.

We know. You're a very important person. Anytime anybody forgets it, you're the first one there to remind them. We thank you for your service.

Hak is younger than Berry.

Younger than that.

And I don't mean just in chronological age. I'm talking demeanor, style, communication, relatability to 18 to 23 year old young men........the intangibles that are difficult to measure, but are arguably just as important, if not more so.

He WAS a top assistant at a Big10 program. So you're saying if he hadn't taken on the Augustana job to prove he had what it took to be a head coach, you would be more comfortable with UND hiring him?

I will tell you he came to speak at a camp in Moorhead last summer and everything I heard was that the players loved him. He also landed one of them (Bergeson) shortly after.

Schlossman's story today on the controversy of Gino's hire might be laying the foundation for the uproar that will happen if Dane is hired.

It is a good reminder that an assistant coach won't necessarily keep everything the same. It's a fair point, one I have made a few times since Sunday.

But for the record, I don't think Jackson is the right choice.

Nothing would get people more juiced than a proven associate head coach from the ECAC.  UND can really bust that upstate New York pipeline wide open as everyone has been dreaming of when they hire Joe Smith from Colgate.

If not, he seems to be not so subtilty showing who he wants to be the next coach. I hope it's my theory and not yours.

KG is younger but doesn't connect with the players at all.

I want what's best for the program.  We can disagree without making it personal.  I would want more brand cache than Raboin brings.

Any rumors to Emilio Estevez getting the job.  He did a great job in Mighty Ducks!!

I was thinking Coach Reilly. He sure knew how to get those blue chip players, even if that meant breaking district line rules.

I don't know shyt about any of this inside stuff or about other teams' coaches, and I don't have a preference.   But if Jackson is hired, it seems to me that continuing the Berry style is the last thing he'd do.   He, more than just about anybody, knows how ready the program is for a new direction and has seen up close and personal how brutal the UND HC position can be when you don't measure up.

Bringing in an Associate HC from the ECAC is your idea of brand cache?

You know what I meant. I am not going to go round and round with you on semantics.

My point is, you saying no to Hak simply because of his age, even though he's always been an incredible recruiter and has always had a knack for connecting with his players and getting the most out of them, is stupid.

And without looking it up name one associate head coach in the ECAC. Ten seconds.  Don't cheat.  (I got zero)

I think the most important part of being a head coach is the ability to motivate whomever you have on your roster and your staff as well.

A team with moderate talent that is ready to believe they can perform better is often the team that does perform well.

Getting the most out of your guys is a true testament to your ability.

Identifying weaknesses and strengths and scheming to them is another important trait.

I assume the "what would you do different" is a fairly important piece of the puzzle and he'd really have to sell that.
If the answer was nothing, why wouldn't they just keep BB one more year?

But he's from California, and we know that they have the reputation for being very humble.
