I thought Laurilla was really good this weekend, and will only get more time as the year goes on.  Saturday could've been sketchy defensively with two regulars out and Zmolek not 100%.  It was at times, but the every eligible d man unit got the job done.

Before last night's game Miller had a better SV% with 3 shoutouts and GAA was almost the same with Spoon being slightly better.

Pretty sure he means over the year. UND SOS is 12th and Denver is 15th.  Not sure which of those games each played though. 

Spoon gets the nod until he actually, ya know, loses a game.

A couple midseason thoughts.  First, I just adore the north-south, push the pace approach.  So many times, the normal thing would be to go D-to-D, but nope, we're skying it up the rink.  It results in some extra icing calls, but that's a small price to pay for the extra pressure it applies.

Second, what forward do you take out when Reschny and Zakreski return?  Everyone seems practically indispensable.  Unfortunately injuries will probably make that decision for us, but wow, the forward group on this team.

Tbh they’re going D to D plenty but it’s usually necessary. Icing the puck for a Hail Mary pass puts us in bad position too. The thing that stands out every game I watch this team is poise. The breakout passes and touches are so satisfying to watch this year compared to last years panic chip off the boards or turn over to the other team. They are so confident they’ll even pass to a teammate in front of our own net when they’re pinned in our zone and I have yet to see it blow up in our face yet.

Equally noticeable is their pinching and pushing the forecheck.   They concede very little and yet they seem to maintain coverage behind.

And MI would be 4 under the PWR.

At a glance, it appears that the teams with the most significant drops in the top 16 after the conversion to NPI are UND & Northeastern; who fell from 13 to 17. Both teams lost to ECAC schools, UND to Clarkson & Northeastern to Harvard.

Michigan would absolutely destroy us. Thankfully we have three months to prepare for that possible match up.

Re Michigan, it's hard to say yet.  The only upper echelon team we've played is Duluth, and we didn't seem out of our element against them.  We'll have a better idea after the Denver weekend.  I have a hard time seeing this team look outmatched against anyone.

Michigan looks dominant but a bit less world-beating when you look closer at their results. They’ve split with every team they’ve played better than the top 30 except their week 2 sweep of Providence and an OT sweep against Harvard…otherwise they’ve feasted on the bottom with lopsided scores. Splits with the top half of the B10 in Mich St, PSU, Sconnie, and the lone NCHC team in WMU don’t scream “they’re out of our league” to me. 

They're undefeated in game 1 of series this year though, so teams will have to figure that out. 

UND’s struggles came in week 2 & 3 before an OT loss to UMD to start week 4 and undefeated since… given a huge incoming class and overhaul of systems with the coaching carousel, I’d say they’re way ahead of schedule. Weird to think that Mich is likely more battle tested than UND so far though, but TBD how strong the B10 is, as always. How often have they been overrated and gotten half their conference into the postseason, only to lose out in the first round to lower ranked NCHC teams? Hopefully a pattern that continues.
