Too early to look ahead at any bracketing

let the season play out then let the politics of the selection committee begin, it will happen just depends on how you see it

the 4-2-5 that eric uses?

how many other schools use this?

it seems to be working...

bone by bone

Just guessing it's used more and more each year in college, closing in on the 4-3 base.  But a 4-3 nickel package is a 4-2-5.

Schmidty could stop the run with a 3-4 until most of his starters were hurt that one season his prior stop at UND.  Schmidty knows D, and how to HC.  He pulled it together this year personnel wise (but we are thin) and I only think the D gets stronger with team success and his recruiting.  #bonebybone

It's plenty common.

how much longer would've bubba used his 3-4 or 4-3 if he didn't get canned?  is that d scheme popular anymore...or was it ever?  it was implemented at und with rodger to take on the ndac's veeer bullcrap (and that worked for a while)

I was pushing for years to get rid of that awful 3-4 defense. I get that if you have the right players it works but it's hard to get those players in the FCS and the last coach wasn't getting them. Thank God I don't have to watch that defense anymore!!!

I believe several (six) of Indiana football defense (4-3 base) which has been very good is made up of James Madison defensive transfers. They ran a 3-4.

Point being this defensive scheme seems to get better play from the athletes if ran correctly. Also if 4-2-5 is base you can adjust body types more depending on offensive packages that are being run.

Also I remember Schmidt had safeties recruited as OLB while at UND as a DC, my guess so when we had to go Nickle some OLB personal could be still used.  With 4-2-5 they (safeties) can work and play more in space and improve than being an OLB suddenly being put on space to cover.
