Seems to be a lot of criticism of the handling of the entire situation if test kits is the only problem. Again, I wish someone would put out their numbers for infections and deaths if we would’ve had test kits earlier. And then subtract from that number the estimated lives saved by halting travel from China at a time when the WHO admonished the administration for making that decision To be fair, the ability to properly administer tests is the foundation of a proper response. Everything is built upon it. So is proper communication. Without both we’re navigating blind.....which is, frankly, our biggest problem now. We've been forced to play catch-up because of this administration's incompetent initial response. So, it that sense, criticism is certainly warranted. Again, this isn't a political rant; Trump has done a very good job since the initial failure.

Including those already present, about 30,000 U.S. troops will participate in April and May, flanked by 7,000 troops from 17 NATO member and partner countries, including Italy." That article is from three days ago, with no mention in my feeds of reducing these numbers or sending them back, unless you can show otherwise. The number of personnel participating is more like 37,000, actually. The following were some of many articles about the reduction that I found with a 30sec Google search, and it was from 4 days ago. And I went to the website you got your source from. Holy !@#$. If that's what you consider a credible news source, I don't know what to tell you other than lay off the crack pipe. Here's an article talking about the reduction and cancellation of parts of Defender-20 from 4 days ago: https://thehill.com/policy/defense/487138-us-military-cuts-back-troops-to-participate-in-european-exercise-over-virus Quote The U.S. military will reduce the number of troops expected to participate in a multinational exercise in Europe for the “health protection” of forces, U.S. European Command announced Wednesday, citing concerns about the coronavirus. Quote The news comes the same day the Defense Department announced it would pull U.S. forces from a multinational Arctic exercise in Norway that also has been curtailed due to concerns over coronavirus, which causes the disease known as COVID-19. That exercise, which began earlier this month but ended a week early, involved more than 15,000 service members from 10 countries. In addition, several exercises based in South Korea have been canceled, as have two joint drills with Israel, and the multinational Operation African Lion has been pared down. Or this article from 2 days ago: https://www.military.com/daily-news/2020/03/12/troops-europe-face-limbo-following-canceled-exercise-travel-ban.html Quote On Wednesday, U.S. European Command announced that the number of U.S. troops participating in DEFENDER-Europe 20 was being cut back, although several U.S. units have already arrived and moved into position in NATO alliance states. DEFENDER-Europe 20 was set to be the biggest deployment for an exercise in 25 years, with 20,000 soldiers deploying from the U.S. and training with 17,000 allies. "In light of the current coronavirus outbreak, we will modify the exercise by reducing the number of U.S. participants," the EUCOM statement said. "Activities associated with the exercise will be adjusted accordingly, and we'll work closely with allies and partners to meet our highest priority training objectives." Quote "This is just the beginning of widespread curtailment of military exercises overseas," he said. "[Europe] is not more dangerous than the United States. It would be different if the United States was unaffected [by the virus] and [troops] were going to a place that was severely affected, but that's not the case." But as the virus continues spreading, he said the U.S. will most likely have to "eliminate virtually all future military exercises overseas" and quarantine the troops and equipment deployed to participate in exercises like DEFENDER-Europe 20. The announcement followed on EUCOM's cancellation of two other joint training exercises within a week that were already underway -- one in Norway and a second in Israel. A statement Wednesday from EUCOM headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, said that Norwegian authorities had called off the remainder of Exercise Cold Response. We'll see if any part of Defender-20 will still be a go by Monday night. I'm betting it will be reduced to pretty much just a cargo transport exercise by that point. But maybe it was too far gone to stop, and they will quarantine in place either in Europe or back on American bases.

No one cared about covid-19 a week ago because this country wasn't experiencing the effects of it yet, nor was the government doing what it was supposed to do in such a situation. Also, by and large, we're an insular thinking country that doesn't care about the world outside our own borders. We didn't bother to see it coming. However things change fast when people start dying. AND the difference between covid-19 and the flu is that we know what to expect from the flu. The flu is predictable, we have antidotes and our bodies have built up somewhat of an immunity to it (at least for some of the strains that don't mutate). In comparison, we know virtually nothing about covid-19. Sure people are overreacting, it's ridiculous. However that doesn't mean covid-19 isn't a potentially serious problem going forward. The two aren't mutually exclusive. I swear, "it's the media" has become the reactionary response to anything that doesn't fit into some people's preconceived worldviews. It's like clockwork.

One week everything is hunky dory & we're anticipating a good series with CC; the next I can't even buy any asswipe at my local Walmart. Had no problems getting water tonight, but no Charmin at any stores I was at. Not sure people have their priorities in order, unless they plan on their tp keeping them hydrated. Hammersmith: try to tone it down with the crack pipe reference, ok? That was years ago. Seriously, I don't think you or anybody is the final arbiter on what is credible or not; being "official" or on a certain channel doesn't necessarily qualify it as truthful. Information is coming from many sources right now. The point is that quite a few service members will still be involved, because I saw "curtailed" & "reduction" being used, but not a full-stop. And will these exercises have any interactions with the local populations? Because it sounds like there will be during their rest periods. I guess as outsiders we won't know the logistics & actual deployments involved until they happen; but to have any exercises at all at this stage in the game without full knowledge of the possible consequences is immoral, & criminal, if it in any way contributes to its spread. If they can cancel games at halftime, they sure as hell can cancel this exercise until more is known. Not that I believe any of this, just offering a counter-point. Popular Post farce poobah
I'd like to offer a thank you to my colleagues here on Sioux Sports, directed especially to those in the health care professions. I'm happy to hear what each of you have to say, and I value your perspectives. I can only imagine the stresses you're about to be hit with (and if you want to vent a bit here, that's fine by me!) but for now, please accept my sincere thank you for all the work you do. And if I end up in your hands in a care facility, you can know there's nobody I'd rather go into battle with. Cratter
Curfews are now being issued in New Jersey. Guess they didn't like people going to bars at night. If young people are such carriers why is any school open? I guess we are officially at the point where nothing is too dramatic right now to stop people from spreading the illness. Some believe this is the beginning and curfews will be nationwide. Any travel will be highly limited. This is the new snowball starting to roll down the hill....
