Cratter Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Looks like that new management company has been working overtime: Five Finger Death Punch/Shinedown Thomas Rhett Bill Engvall Rodney Carrington & more! Quote
Cratter Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 Foreigner at the Fritz. Dwight Yoakam at the Fritz. TIm & Faith at the Ralph. Keith Urban at the Ralph. Little Big Town at the Ralph. Not to shabby for upcoming Concerts/Entertainers for a small town on the prairie. 2 Quote
dmksioux Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Not as big of a name/national brand, but Half Brothers Brewing and Brick and Barley are having Hairball perform for a free concert on 3rd street on May 5th. Add in Blues in the Red, Concerts in the Garden, Up North Ribfest, Alley Alive, and Greenway Takeover Festival, more bars downtown offering music and GF has quite a bit of entertainment/music options. Entertainment options is one of the things I've always enjoyed and wanted to see more of in GF. Over the last few years this area has grown a bit more. 2 Quote

I've always thought GF could use more of this. Lots of small towns have popular street dances, and Grand Forks could put on a hell of one if they wanted to. Close down third from Demers to University. Rope it off. Allow free roaming in between the bars and drinking outside, invite a loved regional band like Hairball and say screw the noise ordinance, and party til 1am! Throw up the christmas lights that cross the streets downtown that are currently up. Packed street crowded downtown for a block or two. The optics could be great. Quote
MissSioux85 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Half Brothers Brewery has FREE live music EVERY night. And it's family-friendly. Quote

So something along these lines? https://www.basilicablockparty.org/ Town Square does some of that already, but it is nice to change it up a bit. Quote

Town Square can be nice for the "family friendly." I like the idea of using the street and incorporating the bars. Event would have to be free though as buildings and bars would be blocked off to get into from the event. Quote
ChrisUND1 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 https://www.downtownrochestermn.com/events/tof Rochester does a great job with this every Thursday in the summer. Quote
nodak651 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 White Bear Lake does this too. Huge hit with the local community. Every Thursday there is a different theme. http://www.marketfest.org https://m.facebook.com/Marketfest?_rdr Quote
Cratter Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 GF did have some smaller bands outside rhombus guys blocking the street this summer which was cool. I'm guessing Downtown Development Association put it on. Quote

IMO certain areas of 3rd should be pedestrian only. From the railroad tracks to Toasted Frog. Quote

Cratter Posted February 7, 2018 Author Posted February 7, 2018 Well that picture brought back some memories! Got any interior pictures? I think I was in there once or twice when I was 10 and that was about it, vaguely remember it. The only time third street is busy enough to warrant it closing is Friday and Saturday nights. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 It’s proof that a good concept executed poorly can be a complete failure. Quote

dmksioux Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Now it looks like Metallica is coming. Glad to see they are making an effort to diversify the types of acts they are bringing in. Now we just need the people to show up for these shows... 1 Quote

First concert was Metallica at the Hyslop almost 30 years ago! Gonna be awesome with my son by my side! Quote
dmksioux Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 I saw them at the BSA in Fargo in ‘92. Great show...just them and about 3 hrs of music. Still enjoy their concert but they aren’t the same as they were back in the 80s/early 90s. Glad they are coming to the Al. Quote
dmksioux Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Looks like GF got Metallica in on a Saturday night. They are also playing Minneapolis on a Tuesday, Sioux Falls on a Tuesday, and Winnipeg on a Thursday. Hope people show up for the non country shoes so we can continue to get those types of shows in GF. a side note, the opening act for Metallica is comedian Jim Brewer and a DJ. 3 Quote

Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes. Also, I love the MPLS - Lincoln - GF - Sioux Falls - Winnipeg tour routing. Bouncing around the heartland like a pinball. 1 Quote
NoiseInsideMyHead Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Venue presale for Metallica is a joke. Only a handful of SINGLES at the lower price level. Not gonna pay $132 for those guys, sorry. Maybe I'll go if TM gets their head out of their ass. Quote

HawksHoops Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Got four tickets and can't wait to see Metallica! Well worth it since there is no travel or hotel room required for once. Really happy with the efforts by new Alerus management. 1 1 Quote
