If NHL doesn't move to Phoenix a generation ago, there's probably no way Auston Mathews decides to play hockey.   Ironic that he ends up going to an original six franchise in Toronto.

Another nice boost for USA Hockey - #1 overall pick.

Does Vancouver getting a defenseman instead of Dubois put pressure on Brock?  or an opportunity for Drake?

Huh? Drake? He signed with the oilers. Brock and Tyson will tear up the nchc

congrats to Tyson wow top 10!

As long as its draft night, a nice historical view:

Most surprising to me is that DU has only 3 first round draft picks.   I'd have expected a lot more.

Second most surprising is that SCSU has none.   But that might change tonight.

Haha and after posting this, a Denver commit gets drafted 23rd overall.

From the SCSU website:

SCSU recruit Dennis Cholowski was drafted by Detroit #20 in the first round. He is the first Husky to be selected in the first round of the NHL draft.

Now UMD bags their 3rd-ever first rounder. (Riley Tufte, Mr Hockey MN this year.)

Pretty good night for the NCHC.  Assuming, that is, that the clubs that picked guys give them time to develop in college.

So Wisconsin ends up having 2 players selected in the first round in current player Luke Kunin and now incoming player Trent Frederic at #29. Of course it was Boston going off the board with the pick.

No Badger first-rounders since 2008.   Then Wisconsin changes coaches and has two.  Hmmm.

“Right now I see myself playing one or two years at North Dakota. My ultimate goal, the reason I went to school was to develop as a player and ultimately get to the NHL and win a Stanley Cup. That’s the main reason I chose North Dakota is because they put players in the NHL and that’s my goal. If I work on a few details in my game and get bigger and stronger, I figure one or two years.”
