BigWestGuy Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Disregard Coach Turner's comments. That guy complains about EVERYTHING! Box score attendance said it was only 1,263. Does that seem right? As a fan of a fellow mid-major, was hosting the CIT worth it from a fans perspective, the final result not withstanding? Quote

hky Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 How many games this year did we have the ball in our hands at the end with a chance to win? Or tie? It's Hooker that makes this team go, not Jones. I wish we'd make a coaching change. 2 Quote

Squared up open shot from 20 feet. When you said, "never got a shot off," I questioned my memory. Not letting the coaches off the hook, but if it goes in we probably wouldn't be complaining about them right now. Quote

The turnout (eye test, not box score number) seemed to indicate the fans thought it was worth it, I was concerned about attendance when the game was announced. UND has a tough time getting quality mid-majors up to Grand Forks. Outside of UNI (done on a 3-1 and still only then because of coaching ties), UC-Irvine was easily one of the better OOC opponents that has been to Grand Forks in a while, so it was nice from that perspective as well. Throw in how little this team loses, getting them the chance to play against quality programs, allowing them to continue to measure themselves and what they need to do in the offseason was the right choice. 2 Quote

Fans seemed to enjoy it (living out of town, I had to watch on tv) and the players got a good experience out of it, so hopefully it pays dividends in the future (donations, ticket sales, on-court success). It appears the real goal may have been to let the people of North Dakota and western Minnesota know that we have a half-decent basketball team again. From a financial standpoint though, with the cost of advertising, food and housing for the players during spring break, and the host bid, UND probably had a net loss of around $30 grand on it. Some of that loss may have been offset with donations, advertising, and tv revenue; I'm not sure if we got a bonus from our regional sports tv contract for the game or not. Quote

Didn't the REA have something to do with the actual money being used for the bid? If so they would keep all concession revenue as well. Quote

He got escorted off the floor once by two security guards and was allowed to return, and then he was removed completely just before the end of regulation. Besides being overzealous and obnoxious, what did he do to get removed? considering there is about 22 security guards/police at the betty for 2200 fans they have eyes everywhere...i even saw freund being warned for getting to close to the court??? absolute joke. Shanks met him in the lane and he rolled his ankle after they hit. It was about as harmless as it gets. 4 hours ago, UND1981 said: The big UCI center has a gimpy knee. He was wearing a wrap on it at the start of the game and came out of the locker room after the injury with ice on his knee. Shanks gave him a high school bump and he fell like a ton of bricks. Certainly not a cheap play by Shanks. UCI's biggie actually stepped on top of Shank's shoe with his left foot. It instantly threw him off balance and his right ankle buckled and rolled under his own weight, twisting his whole leg funny. Shanks had no fault in it. Quote

Also not a new thing at UND sporting events. I know I wore a hockey jersey to many basketball games back in 1990 and I'm sure there were people before me that did as well. Quote

My guess he may have said a few words that weren't exactly appropriate for a public area but that's just a hunch. Quote

He did look like a whiner on the sideline but then UND's coach can be a whiney one too. I think the 1,263 was probably accurate/fairly close, not a large crowd by any means. I thought it was great to get another home game although I'm guessing UND took a financial hit on it but probably felt it was worth the hit in the long run perhaps. Quote

As for the Anteater fan, I knew the usher who was working that corner of the gym. According to her, the fan was "on the court" meaning he had walked on to the carpet strip behind the basket and was also jawing with other fans. They removed him the first time for being on the court. They removed him again, although she said he was allowed to watch from a different area, because during one of his pacing episodes, he ran into a little girl. Apparently he was telling a few people he played for the Clippers also. That guy was just a bit off... Quote
