The list of potential nicknames came out with about 160 pages of people requesting Fighting Sioux despite being stated that the former name would not be considered.   This shows the immense support for the former nickname that has been evident throughout this process.

I posed this question to my friend the other day in a drunken stupor in Vegas and would like to revisit it on this site.  If you could either:

A) Guarantee that UND wins a national championship in 2015-2016 and continue down our current path of choosing a new nickname/no nickname

or

B) Keep the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo until the end of time and have the chips fall where they may in regards to national championships

Which would you choose?

DISCLAIMER: This is not to be taken seriously as I know these are not 2 realistic options but it's the offseason and no early departure news is coming out.

Dear Beer, can I call you Beer?

Your answer in (B) is incorrect. It should read:

Keep the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo until the end of time and have the chips fall where they may in regards to national championships NCAA keep giving UND the "Marco Hunt" treatment at their tournaments until the end of time as well.

B, easy if it's put that way.

I say we make this tougher....

1) Keep the name and logo forever

or

2) Never win a national title with the Sioux logo

So the name and logo is more important than "nattys" © gfhockey because the "Marco Hunt" treatment means no "nattys".

I guess Hakstol gets a pass for the rest of his career.

Stoney are you flip-flopping? I remember a different answer when I asked you... :D

UND can keep the Fighting Sioux name and logo. The NCAA never told them they had to get rid of it. They just said UND wouldnt be able to compete in the post season.

No they didn't, they said they couldn't compete with the logo jerseys on, or host.

My mistake (Its been so long since it came out.)

Isn't that even "better news" for the keep the name crowd?

Oh yes, ... keep the name, have to have "post season" uniforms that are never seen on the playing surface in Grand Forks in any sport, and keep getting the "Marco Hunt" treatment by the NCAA.

Oh yes, ... fabulous idea.  :silly:

Folks need to read and understand my signature:

The NCAA, the hyper-retentive, hyper-detail-checking group, that micromanages every detail of every event, that made Scheel's Arena in Fargo put "NCAA" stickers over the "Dakota Magic Casino" logos on the cup holders at the seats, did not put Marco Hunt on the ice with UND in Boston by mistake.

The NCAA knew exactly what and why they were doing it. They knew UND pushed for Marco Hunt to be removed from the NCHC approved officials list. They knew Marco Hunt wasn't happy about it. So what did the NCAA do? They put Marco Hunt on the ice with UND as the game official for a national semifinal.

That was no mistake.

That was a message from the NCAA to the UND saying pick a nickname so we don't have to keep hearing the "S" word, or you'll keep getting "the Marco Hunt treatment" from us.

Conspiratorial? Sure. But the NCAA doesn't make "mistakes" like that in championships. They send messages.

No, no. You made me pick title or logo. You didn't say that we'd be rolling the dice and still have a chance to win if I picked logo.

Unfortunately, there are way to many people that would vote for Fighting Sioux Forever!!

Kinda ironic coming from someone using the name Siouxperfan...

I think I would keep the logo and roll the dice on more success in the long run.  There is no guarantee either way but I feel like getting the nickname back would bring just as much joy as a natty would and then after that who knows what could happen.
