Still rumors that Arizona St will get a new arena and a conference invite, presumaby the NCHC.

some people are trying to have it both ways...some say you need a history of good hockey b4 joining the nchc regardless if you have a nice 50 million dollar arena...will it be an arena that finally gets asu their nchc invite or ten years of committed d1 hockey with success that gets them in?

ASU Head Coach Powers is quoted as saying the eventual plan is for ASU to play in a PAC 12 hockey conference....so if that’s the case, why in the world would the WCHA, or the NCHC for that matter, even consider inviting them to join knowing it’s not in ASU’s long-term plans to stick around?

Well the Colorado teams would probably like to have ASU.

For the WCHA, they have nothing to lose and no where to go but up.

In either case a PAC12 hockey conference is not going to happen anytime soon. In the meantime I'm sure both conferences could benefit from their money and influence as a Power 5 school. The biggest risk to the NCHC is obviously their impact on our conference record/conference strength.

I don't think any conference thinks it will keep the same membership for 20 years, because that's how long it will take for a Pac12 hockey conference to join.

The "short term" benefits of having a P5 school that is willing to spend money in your conference will outweigh them leaving in 2040.

You’d have to think that the Pac-12 saw how bad the B1G was with 6 teams and should wait to add hockey to the conference when they have 8 teams.

The risk of the NCHC adding Arizona State is low with a higher reward.

Adding Ariz St and UNLV to the NCHC would  cause WMU and Miami to leave.  Net positive.

Western Michigan and Miami will not pay 1.5 million to leave the NCHC.

I've said it before.  UNLV hockey will happen, and the Engelstad Foundation will be a huge reason why.  They are already a huge supporter of the Rebel hockey club and have made significant donations the past few years.

2015 - 37,500

2014 - 113,495

2013 - 112,250

2012 - 37,500

And where would they go to? The WCHA? That conference has tragically collapsed the last few years. They could reform the CCHA but then they'd need 4 other teams to leave their conferences.

A  MAC-Horizon bus league is inevitable.  Oakland, Toledo, Illinois St, and Buffalo are just a matter of time.  Bowling Green badly wants out of the WCHA.  The pieces are just about there.

That guy had every detail along the way of the Fleck deal. He posted before the Gophers bowl game last year and not a lot of people took it serious on GopherIllustrated but then everything that he kept posting would happen did happen and it was a very fun thread to follow.

I won't even bother getting into the other ones because you think Illinois State is going to add hockey? They are broke as a joke and already subsidize their athletic department at almost $20 million/year and the state is slashing funding. But it's just a matter of time....

Illinois State at least has an arena to play in unlike Illinois, but they are going to need a major donor like Illinois to add hockey.

Illinois St and Iowa St have ice arenas, so a donor could definitely make the difference in starting the Div I program. Being their athletic budgets are so large, even if subsidized, it may eventually have enough support within to start, even without the big donor. If Arz. St. and potentially UNLV, why not some U south of the Minns, Wiscos, & Michs?

Iowa State would use the Hilton?

Iowa club hockey uses the rink in the shopping mall.

Iowa is getting that new arena that is finally getting built.

I’ve heard The Hilton Colosseum at Iowa State can make ice.
