Wilbur
I'm a huge Eades fan, and thank him for everything that he's done on and off the ice for the program. Big loss. Its only fair to speculate about possible replacements. Here is my list. ~Dane Litke (Defensive specialist) ~Jason Herter (Defensive specialist) ~Brad Berry (was here....left, don't think he'll be back) The team is clearly looking for someone on the defensive side of things. I think either of the Johnson brothers would be good for the coaching staff, but probably not in the particular role that Eades was in. I love Karl Goehring the goaltender, but Karl Goehring the coach probably needs a few years behind the bench at a lower level before he's ready for college. 82SiouxGuy
I don't know, it's just a theory. All I know is that Cary never made a public statement supporting the name change that I'm aware of, and now he is out of a job. It certainly could be a coincedence, but maybe it isn't. It's up to each indivual to decide whether or not to connect the dots. http://www.facebook....comment_mention As far as I know, no assistant coach in any sport has been quoted on the nickname issue. That isn't their position. The head coach speaks for the program. So the fact that Eades didn't make a public statement about the nickname is exactly what was expected and in no way would be a factor in this decision. The stupidity just goes on and on. Chewey
A part of me thinks Eades may be the better coach. He'll get snatched up fast. My guess is he'll get shifted back with Dean Blais. Owens has been out at CC for awhile and, after this year, his position may be less sound. Thanks Cary Eades for your many years of hard work. Will be weird to cheer against you in the future though. gfhockey
What if Hak has a bad season this season? Could this blow up in his face? I can already see what would happen when the UND team doesnt do as expected... lot of blaming hak that he fired eades
gw123
Bottom line Eades was a better recruiter and a far more respected coach than Hakstol. Kind of funny that Hak waited until he got his 6 year contract to "restructure" his coaching staff.

gfhockey
Eades was always willing to talk. Buy beers in an establishment. He didnt care. He just act like a normal guy. Maybe thats why he was canned cuz he didnt act like he was on a pedastol like Hakstol and Jackson do. If an affair was the reason (via from what i read in this forum) there should be more house cleanign then eades from what ive heard around town. tnt
What if Hak has a bad season this season? Could this blow up in his face? I can already see what would happen when the UND team doesnt do as expected... lot of blaming hak that he fired eades No doubt, Hakstol has to own this decision. We have seen how things worked out for Minnesota when they let Guentzel "leave". While the Sioux didn't win it all, as Cary Eades pointed out, they won a title of some sort every year, whether it be a Regional title, a WCHA title, or a Broadmoor. That is not easy to keep that consistency, and they seemed to have a nice chemistry for growing the team from the first half to the second. To mess with that chemistry definitely puts the pressure on the Sioux to perform or outperform the last eight years. I am confident that the Sioux won't replace Eades with a John Hill, but it is still a move that puts the focus solely on Hakstol. Of course I am sure Hakstol puts pressure on himself to get that National title, but I'm sure his new contract adds to that pressure. I will say that it is a bold move, but maybe he saw what loyalty to his assistants did for Gino Gasparini during the last years of his tenure. I am not equating Eades to Craig Perry and Jim Scanlan, but the fact that Hakstol isn't willing to stand pat with success that most coaches would honestly be thrilled with hopefully will put the program back on top in the near future. Time will tell if this decision works out, but I'm sure Hakstol knows the consequence of backsliding from here.

Frozen4sioux
I'm having a hard time understanding this one...... There has to be lots more behind the scenes than that will ever come out. I am a big Eades guy and quite frankly the guy has won consistently through his career, he's a winner and if going forward the direction is to move away from winners, well then I think a better explanation is due. For now I guess I'll reserve opinion untill this "path" is revealed but it's quite the decision to own. I can easily see a situation where Eades goes to UNO recruits and assists for three years and then takes the reigns and runs the table and brings home a title before Hak gets one. I'm not an anti Hak I just don't understand this move.
gw123
If Eades went to UNO would be a great chance he and Blais would bring home a National championship before Hak did. Do you think Hak would consider promoting Jackson to Associate Head Coach?

Great Plains Drifter
Perhaps the GPA's of the defensive corps were not up to standard and Hak feels a need for an associate head coach who will put a stronger emphasis on academics.
Oxbow6
Business is business whether it's college hockey, retail, medicine or big oil. Bottom line is, as many of you know, character/leadership/intergrity trumps talent/"smarts" 99% in the workplace...regardless of the field. Hak made the call to get rid of Eades, but his leadership and character will tough to replace in the locker room and on the ice with the kids on the team and those that were recruited by Eades. Tough to see him let go.
Hayduke
I trust Hack. I'm sure he had his reasons. I still wonder about recruiting? Maybe the loss of those those players to the juniors wasn't his fault, but I think it was a factor.

tnt
Berry is with Columbus in NHL, do you think he would come back to NCAA? (Yes, I know Columbus is a horrible team...) With the guy that hired him as an assistant (Scott Arniel) fired, and a new coach likely to want his own assistants, you never know. And someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Berry's family still live here in Grand Forks?
tnt
Public show? Don't think so. Blais is the kind that speaks his mind, and most people thought he would be promoting Sandelin for the job, but he promoted Hakstol.

USA Hockey
People always want too think the worst when it comes to these situations. It could be something as simple as wanting a d-man to coach the blue line. I don't believe small town gossip, but even if the affair were true, this is Cary's personal life and shouldn't play into his job situation. This staff has been together awhile and maybe Hakstol just wants to shake things up a bit.
UNDBIZ
Anybody else hearing that the New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets assistant coach has been offered the job? I guess he coaches the defense for the Nets and could easily make the transition from the pro's to the college game. I've been hearing some things about the situation from some scouts and this is what they're telling me. Apparently the demands of the pro game don't allow him enough time to see any of his son's games. You do realize that the Nets play basketball and this is a hockey coaching position, don't you? so now we are going to hire NBA assistants? Can't believe you guys didn't catch that. The Nets have a certain assistant coach with a familial relationship with a certain potential UND recruit.....
