Kab
Did you notice how he said that he didn’t think ndsu or sdsu would want to DRAG UND or USD with to the new conference with some of the big sky schools. mcfooley is so full of himself. somehow he thinks his stature will increase if ndsu is fbs. go ahead ndsu, make the jump as an independent.
Hawkster
11 hours ago, SiouxHawkGuy said: Anyone with a subscription wanna fill me in on McFooley’s big idea? Don't get too excited. It ain't happening. --------------------------------------------- Mike McFeely: What if the top teams in the Valley and the top teams in the Big Sky formed an FCS super-conference, with the hope it would position those schools to move to the G5 together if that opportunity ever presented itself? And even if they got stiffed from the G5, wouldn't an FCS super-conference still be more interesting and a better option than playing in the same league with the Murray States, Indiana States, Northern Colorados and Cal Polys of the world? Since the Valley and Big Sky wouldn't cease to exist, maybe the new league could fall under the banner of the Summit League and commissioner Josh Fenton, who has fans among the Dakotas schools that are members of the Valley and Summit. The chances of this actually happening are zero. Or less. But that would be one heck of an FCS football conference. And Summit League basketball would be a blast, too. Imagine NDSU, South Dakota State, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Montana State, Idaho, Weber State and Sacramento State in the same conference. The Sheet isn't sure if NDSU and SDSU would want to do this because they'd drag along UND and USD and we're pretty sure they don't want to do that. The Sheet believes NDSU, for sure, would prefer to go FBS by themselves and at most partner with SDSU. The Sheet, too, realizes SDSU, Montana and Montana State might have no interest in spicing things up because their fan bases seem to remain at a fever pitch. The degradation of the FCS with James Madison, Sam Houston and others moving up only seems to concern people in Fargo.

Johnny Five
McFeely wants NDSU to go to FBS for his leisurely travel purposes. Nobody gonna last as an Independent in this day and age, and besides lunatics, it's not on anyone's radar. The Dakotas and Montanas in a conference together would be awesome though. College sports is all about regional rivalries, but the current landscape of college sports conferences is now coast to coast with tv markets and eyeballs being the biggest seller. Therefore...The Dakotas are screwed. Until, perhaps, the FBS splits and the G5 is it's own entity.

nodak651
This is interesting. MVC just got paid for Loyola's Final Four run for the last time. How much more will the MVC be paying towards the House vs NCAA settlement than UND? My understanding is that will be based on historical results. MVC better hope they can start generating multiple units per year again because they seem to be trending towards parity in the SL in terms of both NCAA tournament revenue and conference tournament attendance/revenue. Really Really Really hoping that the Summit can hang on to all of it's members over the next couple years. I'm curious to see if Illinois State decides to push for a MAC invite - somewhat of a long shot, but in all reality, they would be a great fit. Summit could then add FB, maybe Iniana State drops FB, and potentially the Summit League could then grab UNI if stars align. That said, it seems that there will be tons of change over the next few years months, so speculation that far into the future prob isn't worth the time.

The Sicatoka
"They are looking to take advantage of Athletic Departments with weak leadership who can be convinced they need a third party to conduct relatively simple transactions." That sounds a little like REA (and its backing capital) doing some tasks for UND Athletics, both good and bad.

Difference being the state sole purpose and basis of the REA's non-profit status is to "Support UND Athletics". Something tells me private equity is going to be looking for something a little bit different.... 2

True on all accounts, and touched on a key point: REA entities are non-profits (file Form 990); private equity is all about profits (Form 1040) and not much else.

NeutralObserver
On 5/21/2024 at 8:33 AM, JohnboyND7 said: How is this supposed to work? Thats a lot of travel Divisional play. The sports outside of football will have Bellevue, Valley City St, Mayville St, Dakota St, Dickinson St and Bismarck St. That's 6 teams, so that could be an Eastern division, and you can play your divisional teams twice, and the others once. Maybe you make one trip out to Montana and play a few games. There's also been talk of neutral site games in Dickinson. The other 6 "full-time" schools are in Montana. (yes, Bismarck St has been accepted into the NAIA, although they haven't announced it themselves. They've applied to the Frontier, so it is assumed they will be voted in like the others were). https://www.naia.org/general/2023-24/releases/NewMemberRelease_Spring2024 Football is a little more complicated because there are football only schools like Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon, College of Idaho and Arizona Christian, and Bellevue/Bismarck St don't have football right now. But you could still have divisional play to reduce the really long road trips, and maybe have neutral site games early in the season. 1

Rumor is per Dom Izzo that all of the TX WAC teams are on their way out leaving the 3 Utah schools as the only FB members left. Rumor is the Summit might pick them up and add their FB to the MVFC. That also opens the door to Summit FB.

Kab
So they are saying Bismarck state wants to be a 4 year school and join the conference in the future. why would the state board allow another 4 year school when they should be closing some of the smaller schools?
