Maybe this one will stay on track.

Since we are all fairly new to I-AA/FCS football, I figured we could use a little history lesson to study up on. Big Sky members are in bold.

Past DI-AA/FCS Championship games:

Year Champion Score Runner-Up

1978 Florida A&M 35-28 Massachusetts

1979 Eastern Ky. 30-7 Lehigh

1980 Boise St. 31-29 Eastern Ky.

1981 Idaho St. 34-23 Eastern Ky.

1982 Eastern Ky. 17-14 Delaware

1983 Southern Ill. 43-7 Western Carolina

1984 Montana St. 19-6 Louisiana Tech

1985 Ga. Southern 44-42 Furman

1986 Ga. Southern 48-21 Arkansas St.

1987 La.-Monroe 43-42 Marshall

1988 Furman 17-12 Ga. Southern

1989 Ga. Southern 37-34 Stephen F. Austin

1990 Ga. Southern 36-13 Nevada

1991 Youngstown St. 25-17 Marshall

1992 Marshall 31-28 Youngstown St.

1993 Youngstown St. 17-5 Marshall

1994 Youngstown St. 28-14 Boise St.

1995 Montana 22-20 Marshall

1996 Marshall 49-29 Montana

1997 Youngstown St. 10-9 McNeese St.

1998 Massachusetts 55-43 Ga. Southern

1999 Ga. Southern 59-24 Youngstown St.

2000 Ga. Southern 27-25 Montana

2001 Montana 13-6 Furman

2002 Western Ky. 34-14 McNeese St.

2003 Delaware 40-0 Colgate

2004 James Madison 31-21 Montana

2005 Appalachian St. 21-16 UNI

2006 Appalachian St. 28-17 Massachusetts

2007 Appalachian St. 49-21 Delaware

2008 Richmond 24-7 Montana

2009 Villanova 23-21 Montana

The Big Sky has been very successful on a national level over the years. It would be nice to see EWU win a championship to bring the Big Sky up to 4 active members who have won championships.

Delaware just had a 80-yard drive to score a touchdown. But EWU blocked the PAT.

UD 6

EWU 0

5:14 left in 1st.

I'm just heading out the door to the hockey game. So I hope the Ralph keeps us updated on the score.

I find it interesting that every starter on EWU's defense is from the state of WA.

Just goes to show the recruiting advantage that schools from larger states have. Could you imagine UND or NDSU fielding a championship quality D1 FCS football team using nothing but ND kids?!

Nope.........too many buthockeys to the south.

What a comeback for EWU!

I thought this team was dead when their stud RB went down but they ran the table anyway.

Congrats to them and the Big Sky Conference.

Between the CAA and the Big Sky , they are definitely the top 2 conferences in FCS. It is really EXCITING to think that we are joining the Big Sky. I can't wait.

EWU only won the National Championship because the refs handed every playoff game to them. *wah wah wah wah refs suck, EWU shouldn't be there*:silly:

I wonder what fanbase I am mocking...

Congrats to EWU.

Awesome game, they were dead in the water! Great for Spokane and EWU. I'm living in Spokane now and it was fun watching the game with other Eagles fans.

All 40 of them? Ha...JK.

Good for EWU. Sorry I'm a Bison fan but not a whiner. Bison had plenty of opportunities to beat them on their turf and blew it. Just like MMA, don't put in the officials hands to affect the game....don't drop the ball. EWU seemed like a team "destined" to win it this year. Winning tight games and comebacks all season long. I think the exciting part is as a Bison fan, really not that far off. NDSU usually has a solid running game. This year the defense was there and I think they were really a good QB and some horrible play calls away from making a more serious run. And for you Sioux fans we just really don't know yet but it will be exciting for you to get into that Big Sky schedule to see where you are at and what you need to do to get there. A lot of people b*tch about your attendance, etc...EWUs is a joke for attendance and now they are National Champs. It's what is on the field that counts.

Time to close the book on the 2010 season and look forward to the recruiting, etc.

Most Bison fans I've talked to blame the defense for the loss by giving up the 90 yard drive to tie. Nope, not them.

I say it was lost when NDSU punted on 4th and 2 and turned the ball over to a potent offense (that had admittedly been struggling that day).

NDSU had been getting 4 yards per run up to that point.

Run the ball, get first down, insert dagger.

Instead, the NDSU coaches opted to punt.

EWU had offense. How do I know? They rattled off 20 unanswered from 19 down against Delaware.

They deserve the win and all that comes with it.

Probably the 3rd down right before that. Bison ran a fake sweep to Sigers and the QB (Jensen) tried a dive and it failed. Sigers had a lead blocker and 10 yds of open field.......geeez!!

What ifs.......

Should UND put in Kelley Green turf?

Weber St considering purple turf

story-17-turf-66535.jpg

Eastern alum Michael Roos, now a Tennessee Titans offensive lineman, believes the Inferno helped the Eagles blaze into the FCS title game, where they defeated Delaware 20-19.

"I think the red turf definitely helped them. It seemed to unify everyone and give them more motivation to protect their home field."

Roos is no unbiased observer: It was his donation that helped pay for EWU's red turf.

From a marketing standpoint, the media attention, including appearances on ESPN Gameday and in USA Today and Sports Illustrated paid major dividends for Eastern Washington, Big Sky spokesman Jon Kasper said.

"I think it was immeasurable, what happened this year," he said. "It's great when you put in the red turf and then you go undefeated on it and win the national championship, so I don't know, maybe we'll see everyone else try to see if it works for them."
