When they traded that far back, I thought he was a cinch for them. Very happy he got snagged by the Rangers just a pick before them. They picked a D the next pick, too. Quote

That was part of the problem with the Avs rushing Jost if I'm recalling correctly. Quote

Tight, which is why I think getting Emery was spot on. Rangers need to get younger and cheaper. I think they'll trade Trouba and his massive contract and bring EJ along in two, maybe 3 years. Quote
scpa0305 Posted June 29 Posted June 29 When’s the last time we had two first rounders? Also, was the last F Boeser? Quote

Currently he’s seen as a defensive specialist and probably the best rush defender in this draft class. So he could step into a bottom-pairing role fairly soon. But if he can show any sign of offensive ability in his freshman season at UND, I wonder if the Rangers would have him stay in college an extra year or two to allow that side of his game to develop. Emery is raw but so athletic that it wouldn’t shock me if he turns into more than a defense-only defenseman. 1 Quote
Kevin G Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Both Boisvert and Emery were interviewed last night at the draft, and they both came across as humble, determined, and ready to work. Their attitude will make them easy to cheer for. 4 Quote

brianvf Posted June 29 Posted June 29 https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/n-y-rangers-rave-about-e-j-emery-plan-to-be-patient-with-his-development-at-und Quote The last time the New York Rangers picked a UND-bound player was 2013. That was Adam Tambellini, a third-round pick. Tambellini lasted one semester at UND before bailing for Canadian major juniors over Christmas break. Two years earlier, the Rangers picked another UND-bound player, J.T. Miller, with the No. 15 overall pick. Just weeks after the draft, Miller also pulled the plug on college and went to play Canadian major juniors. Quote On Friday night in The Sphere, the Rangers selected UND incoming freshman defenseman E.J. Emery with the No. 30 overall pick in the first round. This time, they made it clear they're happy Emery is attending UND and they expect him to stay there for a while. "I think it's great that he's going to North Dakota," said John Lilley, the Rangers' director of player personnel and amateur scouting. "The history there is terrific. Really good coaching staff. Always is a team in the mix in the NCAA tournament." Lilley said the Rangers plan to be patient with Emery's development. "He will determine his path, how quickly he develops," Lilley said. "But there's certainly no rush with him. He's the 30th pick overall, not the third. It's going to take him time, just getting bigger and stronger and rounding out his overall game. He's going to take time. We're in no rush with him. We're happy to get him in the pipeline. We'll see how long it takes, but we know he's going to put the work in to get there eventually." 1 Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Players like Swanson and Livanavage make champions out of college teams, glad to have them both for hopefully 4 years each. 3 Quote
scpa0305 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Sounds like there’s a medical issue with Emery that some teams were skittish about. Via EP Rinkside Quote
scpa0305 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Shocked Laurila didn’t get drafted. About as young as it gets I suppose and didn’t have a great role on that NTDP team. I’m assuming he has a great USHL season and gets drafted next year. Quote
