MissSioux85 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Well, I think it's about time somebody stood up for a teammate like what happened last night. And... uh... like I mentioned, if we're not going to enforce the rules then we're gonna have to find... recruit players who will... protect our teammates. Interesting choice of words. Quote
Goon Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 This incident is going to cause a major problem for the WCHA. All of a sudden you have the dirty aspects of hockey showing overtly on a team that the league has pretended for years to be squeaky clean. Three weeks ago it comes out that the coaching staff sent a player out to "get" a guy at the end of a game. Now the head coach is giving a green light to one of the dirtiest hits we've seen in recent years. Of course we all know the gophers are a cheap team. They'll hit after the whistle. They'll slash a player and run hide behind the ref. Lucia is blaming everyone but his players, now he has put the blame on the league's officials, not that I don't think they deserve some of the blame but Lucia called the league out begging them to do something with his statement last night. If I was the league commish I would hammer Lucia hard for his statements. Also, if you watch the game last night Lucia was very unprofessional towards Jutts on the bench. Do you see a pattern developing here? The gophers hockey program has been in everyone's face for years and now is getting it thrown back on them. Everytime a team plays them they relish at the opportuntiy to sock it to them on the score board. I think Denver is getting to that in your face level as well. Quote

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Lucia can put halos on his players if it means an officiating overhaul. Quote

Goon Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Did you guys were there is a rumor that Stoa's dad ripped into the refs this weekend between the 2nd and 3rd period and then before the third period the refs had a police escort. Classic, stuff how the refs are going to need a police escort to get into town. Talk about slap shot there. Quote

I was in the front row of Section 14, he ran down between sections 12 and 13 where the referees walk to their locker room. At first we were all like "Who is that crazy old guy who is freaking out?" I didn't think Lucia was unprofessional in how he said it, so I don't think the league should come down too hard on him, he was just stating the obvious. I don't condone the way Schack did what he did but it was nice to see him stick up for a teammate. As far as Jutting goes, good for Lucia. People may think Lucia complains alot but I don't think anyone complains and whines about EVERY LITTLE thing like Jutting does. As far as these CFB calls are going, maybe they need to start giving an extra game suspension for some of these calls. Saccetti's last night was legit but Stoa's was pretty ridiculous. Quote

Oh last year when we met Greg Shepherd in the Bar Greg must have been drunk because was saying a lot of stuff that made you shake your head, kind like damn should you be telling us this. Shepherd said that Jutting spends a lot of time whining to the refs and basically said if he shut his mouth and worried more about coaching spent less time complaining to the refs he would do a better job. I think we are at the cross roads in the WCHA, the tipping point; I do believe that McClown is going to have a tough time getting his contract renewed. I also think that the refs in this league deserve all of the criticism they get from the fans. I have never seen officiating as bad as it is in the league, it has deteriorated over the last 5 years to a point of being really ridiculous. The WCHA has almost become unwatchable compared to the NHL. Why is it a player that barely scores 30 points in the WCHA can become a 2nd line forward in the NHL and be a legit candidate for the Calder trophy? It is the style the refs are deciding to allow in the WCHA. At the drop of the puck last night in the Gophers and MSU-M game I watched a least 5 examples of obstruction by both teams go uncalled. What they hell are they focusing on? Todd Anderson is almost as bad as Don Adam. I watched a Gopher tie up the Maverick player on the face off, then I saw the Maverick player do a can opener on the Gopher forward. Then I saw numerous obstruction tackles in all ends of the ice. The refs in this league are joke. I saw it last weekend during the DU and UND series. Quote

Blackheart Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 5. I haven't laughed as hard as I did this morning when the "Beyond the Pond" guys on KFAN were talking about how taking the masks off would be a good thing. Really? You want to see Gophers get their butts kicked for that trademarked facewash they're so adept at? That's what'll happen when there's no mask and you really are getting into another guy's face with a glove. * For those who don't believe me, a well-regarded former poster here was on cc:. I laughed at the fact that they seemed embarassed for the Goofers being such a bunch of pansies... Quote

Big A HG Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Here is the SCH(Hack) impersonation of Bertuzzi. I got a video of the Gwoz cupping his ears to our friendly chants that everyone at home missed on live tv. I'll upload it when I get a chance. Quote
tnt Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Again a bunch of crap. We would have challenged the guy to fight. Not jumped him from behind and started beating on him when he was helpless. You have selective memory. When the gophers hit Oshie late last year, didn't Zajac jack Lucia from behind? Sometimes you just respond without thinking first. Not saying that is right or wrong, just that in a game like hockey your emotions can get the best of you. My problem is with guys like Woog and Mazzocco who after this event said how nice it is to have a guy like Shack, while they lit into Zach Jones for being classless when he wanted to handle things from the front. No they gave Oshie a shot from behind, and a knee, and Zajac returned it (to Carmen?) pretty much the same way. (Again I'm not happy about behind the back stuff, but it was pretty much proportional.) That's when Lucia jumped Zajac from behind which was completely unproportional. Pretty much how that team operates. Jump the guy from behind. Quote

sprig Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 No matter how many "attacks" from behind have occurred (whether Sioux/Gophers/ or anyone else), there are no Bertuzzi like attacks similar to the Conboy/Tropp attack and the Schack attack that I can remember. Those were both way out of line. Quote

Those were both way out of line. Gotta agree with you there. In the past three weeks, I have seen gopher players retaliate or instigate 4 times, and each and every time it was from behind or when someone was down. I'm all for sticking up for teammates, but do it face to face. I know standing up for teammates is somewhat new for the gophers, as witnessed by Stoa saying that Shack's attack was the first time they stood up this year, but there are ways that are more honorable than others. I would be embarrased if you hadn't stuck up for teammates until 3/4 of the season was complete. Quote
