kvinbe Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Though difficult to admit as a Sioux fan, there is no doubt that the Gophers are incredibly talented. It's actually kind of frightening. But, the x-factor for the Sioux this weekend could end up being how the Gopher freshman class deals with the intensity of the second half of the WCHA schedule. A lot of teams have been giving them their best shot for an extended time now, and it has to be taking a toll -- especially with the younger guys. I'm hoping they start to wilt a little this weekend. Talent alone won't get it done the second half of the year. Quote

And this year, they have less senior leadership (Potulny and Irmen are off to greener $$$ pastures) and more freshmen expected to carry the load. And I am still not convinced that Briggs is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Last year, he had some good games during the regular season and melted down in the playoffs (again). If he can do better in the playoffs this time, I'll believe the hype. But not until then. PREDICTION (SPLIT): Friday: UM 5, UND 2 Saturday: UND 3, UM 2 Quote

Last year, he had some good games during the regular season and melted down in the playoffs (again). I think its funny that people have been telling Kellin Briggs for 4 years that he is a great goalie and that is all star material, kind of reminds me of the print media in Grand Forks. Don't see it. I also think its funny that I have seen numerous times Briggs implode in big games. If you compared Briggs to KG or Parise he isn't even in the same league as either goalie. Quote

NorthDakotaHockey Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Word has it that Jon Campion is the referee for these games. Quote
siouxguyinstpaul Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Word has it that Jon Campion is the referee for these games. "The Refs are Jon Campion,Tony Lancette and Brad Shepherd" from GPL - damn - sorry - I still have access, just can't post there until next week not verified yet - but probably acurate Quote
Sioux Traveler Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Anybody know of a shuttle service and good food to and from the game? Quote
FIRE HELMET GUY #26 Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Word has it that Jon Campion is the referee for these games. I would have to say we lucked out this series having Campion, he seems to be the best ref this season.....not that thats saying much as far as refs go. But he seems to have most control of games compared to other refs. Thats just what I've gathered this season. He still made my buddy crap himself up in Duluth a few years ago! Quote

I guess you could say that Champion is the less of all evils and should let the boys play. Of course that is, if Sheppard isn't sitting in the press box taking notes. Then we are going to see a parade to the box on both sides of the ice. Lets hope papa sheppard goes to another series this weekend. Someone put him on a plane to Madison, WI. Quote

01grad Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Be sure to watch out for security guards that will accuse you of bothering gopher fans and creating problems. Last year I was just standing at the railing watching the game and a guy came up to me in yellow jacket and told me I had to leave. I told him I didn't do anything and I think that it was just a ploy that some gopher fans told this guy I was causing problems. I was really upset and explained to him that I didn't do anything and convinced him I was telling the truth so I could stay. Just a heads up to watch out for the security people because I think they are out to get us during these weekends. Quote

I know I was talking to some of the UMD guys last night too and they mentioned that they have had the same experiences there. The security people at Mariucci are total morons. I do wish you all luck this weekend on that aspect though, they can be tough to deal with at times. Even though most of them are 90 years old. Quote
01grad Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 The guy that harassed me was probably a volunteer over 70. I know that they are probably told to keep a watchful eye because the place will be packed especially with Sioux fans trying to see from the standing area. Quote

WOW - Lord knows I've attracted attention to myself at the John - believe it or not - and nobody has approached me with that threat. Did you ask why and from whom the accusation originated? I would guess that nobody would get thrown out unless they threw someting on the ice or something similar to that stupidity. Quote
HockeyMom Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Hhhhmmmmmmm.......I seem to remember being at a Sioux football game during the playoffs at Memorial Stadium and people on the east side were pelting the NDSU players and coaches with snowballs most of the game. When a Bison fan threw one, he was escorted out by about 6 security guards. It must be a conspiracy...... Quote
jk Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Anyone remember when Matt Greene got in trouble with his mom, coaches and others for an interview with Hockeys Future where he said something about UND being a hockey factory? I guess EJ might be getting a similar call: http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...27?OpenDocument "No one on the hockey team is here to go to school. Once again, everything has to be spelled out so these idiot trolls can understand. It's got nothing to do with WCHA points, but more to do with two huge rivals going head to head. But I wouldn't expect you to undestand because we all know that bucky is by far your team's greatest rival. Quote
