exactly....what would build/grow/get money more for UND...this home game with all the minus stated above or a road game versus Kansas or Colorado State and get paid 1 milly and maybe get a win too???

Home game is an economic benefit for the whole community. If I'm a sponsor I want a home game I can send some customers to or build a promotion around. When you factor i. The travel for a bodybag game it doesn't make much sense. Home games are the way to go.

What's cracking guys?

Hey - how is it going...  welcome to NCHC.  Plus, any word on how long UST is going to be in the Summit League.  I thought that I a had read maybe as soon as next year for MVC.  What are you hearing?

I'm hoping Jerry is sitting the 2nd half, and we see JTJ settle in a bit more...via leading AT LEAST ONE scoring drive. Seeing him zip a few ropes, and save a few drives with his legs on long 3rd downs would be nice too. If he fails on his first drive they need to get Sulkik in the rest of the game.

I fully expect the 2nd stingers on D to have a much better game. And for the love of god, I hope UND misses 0 XP, kicks a few touchbacks, and dare I say even nail a FG over 35 yards?!?!?!?!?!?!!? I'd walk away after this game feeling better than last week if we see at least most of this wish list happen.

I think UST has always wanted to be in the conference that makes the most sense for them. Their AD, Phil Esten, was the catalyst behind bringing hockey to Penn State, and as a department I believe they're looking to flagship hockey/basketball and since they're the newer urban Catholic university on the block they want to be bold (I think they want to be seen as peers with Marquette, Creighton, Villanova, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Georgetown - I think Notre Dame and Boston College are a different thing and something they probably should not waste their time trying to aspire to). Geographically, the Summit made a lot of sense but Denver leaving really hurts because it was the only university in the conference they had much in common with (urban, private, similar enrollment, etc., I don't think they look at Oral Roberts as a similar university), so I think the Missouri Valley makes sense geographically and from a market standpoint (opens the door to Chicago). Additionally, the MVC is enticing as it puts them in another conference with Drake (which I think they view as a peer institution) and Valparaiso.

I'm a GF resident so, selfishly, I'd like them to stay in the Summit so I can see a few games a year but I'd understand if they left. My optimistic outlook on this is if they join the MVC maybe they'd be more willing to explore the MVFC, and perhaps the Dakota Schools could get a MVC invite, which would be fun because I think that's a higher profile conference and I'm also a big UND fan.

As far as the NCHC goes, it's a no brainer for both parties. Gives the NCHC the Twin Cities market, gets UST in the best hockey conference. Win - win.

Howdy. Do you guys happen to have a backup kicker we can borrow or trade for?

Yeah, when I saw Silvernale attempting a field goal the other day I knew UND was still in the market for a kicker. We'd just ask for a WR over 5'7" in exchange - doesn't have to be a starter. Lol.

The way I look at it, no football is better than non-scholarship football.

Well, good thing for me and the thousands of other UST football alums that care about the program it doesn't matter what you think.

You are right, it doesn't matter what I think. I am just glad UND didn't go down that route when we were conference shopping in the late 2000's.

Why would UND? UND has always been a large state school with scholarship football, not exactly a fit for the PFL. UST hasn't had scholarship football since they started back in 1901. Still had great rivalries, great crowds, and played for conference and national titles. UST's move to D1 was predicated on being ousted from its D3 conference and a belief that the NSIC wasn't a great fit. Marshaling resources for 63 football scholarships on a landlocked campus with little to no room to build a practice facility wasn't going to happen overnight. With baseball and softball moving off campus, maybe it's a possibility, but who knows. PFL was the right fit at the right time. UND's transition from D2 to D1 is a totally different story. College town, room to build, pre-existing scholarship football, etc.

As far as touchbacks aren't there times when the kicker is specifically instructed to kick it to the five yard line to provide some coverage experience? Seems like that is exactly what he was doing after nailing a couple through the end zone in the first half.

if summit sponsored varsity hockey and st Tom was in the summit and it came down to a mvc invite but then an expulsion from summit hockey would you rather have

ccha and mvc

or

nchc/summit lockey

Will there be a lot of UST fans in attendance?

Most likely parents, some seminarians, and me (and all my UND family).

I'm the wrong guy to ask because I like hoops more than hockey. Selfishly I like seeing UST play at UND once a year, from a "what's best for the university perspective" the State of MN is saturated with college hockey which is a niche sport (collegiately) nationwide - basically the northeast and the midwest and very few P4 schools participate. NCHC/Summit gives me an opportunity to see UST at the REA and the Betty which is great, but UST hockey just isn't much of a draw on campus. Maybe that's due to them being in the CCHA and playing lower profile teams, who knows. My guess, though, that on-campus arena will be 1/2 to 2/3 UND fans for hockey which is not a good look.

I am of the opinion you shouldn't flagship two sports who share seasons. Minnesota is the State of Hockey, yes, but they're a very good basketball state and UST should put their eggs in that basket because a March Madness appearance is worth more than than several Frozen Four appearances in terms of national marketing (maybe not what Grand Forks folks want to hear, but it's a fact).

They made their choice to be a hockey/hoops school, but I'd like UST to go all in on FCS football as well.

I don't understand your love for threatening to kick out any team from the Summit that doesn't kowtow to your expectations.  No one is getting kicked out of the Summit for having sports in other conferences.   Now you want to fantasize about a school that doesn't even have hockey in the non existent hockey Summit League.
