UND (KenPom 279) pulled off an incredible comeback in the semifinal against St. Thomas, winning 67-66 in dramatic fashion thanks to a Guga free throw with 0.1 seconds left on the clock.

Yes, that same Guga who airballed a free throw earlier in the game stepped up and hit the clutch one when it mattered most. March basketball, man.

It was a gutsy effort by UND to stay in that game the entire way, even when it felt like the stripes were doing everything they could to give St. Thomas the call down the stretch. Regardless, the Hawks battled and found a way.

Now UND advances to the Summit League Championship game tonight at 8PM against the in-state rival NDSU (KenPom 113).

The first two meetings this season against NDSU did not go well. UND led at halftime in the first matchup, but from that point forward it has mostly been all Bison in the series. One major difference this time around is Josh Jones, who was unavailable for both of those games. We have now seen how important he is, especially on the defensive end.

NDSU is loaded with weapons. Trevian Carson, Demari Wheeler-Thomas, Markhi Strickland, Andy Stefonowicz, Treyson Anderson, Noah Feddersen, and Tay Smith can all impact a game. Any one of them can step up on a given night, which makes them incredibly difficult to defend.

UND will absolutely have its hands full.

Once again, I encourage everyone to make the four hour trek down to Sioux Falls. Yesterday was an absolute blast at the Denny. Let’s make tonight even better.

Tip is 8PM and the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

KenPom projects NDSU to win 80-70, but at this point it’s March and anything can happen.

UND was 4-2 against Denver and St. Thomas, and both those teams split their two games with NDSU during the season. Neither has a traditional big man. So hopefully now that Jones is back playing, that will be the difference from the last two disastrous meetings. Because I can't really understand what other reason there is that UND has struggled so badly against the Bison compared to the Pioneers and Tommies.

Dane Jackson said in his post game press conference that he was going to give the boys a few days of relaxation and fun before resetting for the next round. Wonder if he’d get the boys on a bus this morning and head on down to Sioux Falls to cheer on the men’s basketball team?

Matchups giveth and matchups taketh away. Went to both NDSU/UND games this year. NDSU is a better team but teams lose to lesser teams all the time.

The only result that would surprise me is if UND won comfortably.

Ballers gotta ball tonight. No let up from Uelmen and King, plus need some other contributors. If any of these don’t happen, we won’t advance. Big ask, I know, but that’s what it’s going to take.

We have a 3 out of 10 chance to Win this one!
On paper they are just better, in about every category. However, rivalry games are different. Hard to beat someone 3x in one season, we have a little momentum after last evening.
At the beginning of the year, most would have thought this was impossible?
But from what I have seen we will show up, and not quit!
Hopefully we get a break or two!

I love that we get the chance!!
