I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a million times. The worst fans are the crossover fans. Pick a side cowards!

Same here. Anyone who has jumped ship from UND to NDSU because they "want to be a part of it" should just stay there. Don't bother coming back to us later on.

THIS!  I don't want NDSU people cheering for UND hockey.  Even worse, I don't want UND people cheering for NDSU football.

Never ever cheer for the Bison and don't let them give you that old "but we are all from ND" crap.

It's a rivalry, get over it.

Unless you have a kid, grandkid, niece or nephew playing for one of NDSU's teams, switching sides from UND to NDSU is treason. Period.

Don’t care if ag school wins another 10 championships; their fans are still insufferable and God awful

To be fair, it really is just the rotten few thousands that spoil if for the other 47

I couldn't do it. Nothing would change my opinion.

I think I'd probably put Montana fans as #1 !@#!$! fan base. At least NDSU has an entire trophy case to stand behind from the past 10 years, Montana not so much. But yet they act like they are the best FCS program out there and whine and cry more than any other fans.

The win last Saturday sucked, but was a double whammy as had to endure Montana fans online celebrating and thinking they are hot sh*t......when UND gave away that game.

I'll take our team and coach right now and the trajectory we are on over Montana.

Plus their coach has quite the dark history and they brought him back

I told my kids that the money we set aside for them for college could be used anywhere as long as it wasn't NDSU.  I'm sure they knew I would cave if they decided to there but they didn't test it.  All three of them ended up at UND. :)

Never had to say it out loud but my kids knew the same to be true - had a friend that didn't understand what a rivalry meant and they could not believe we wouldn't allow it. I said "any major they want to study is available at hundreds of other schools."

With all due respect, without the UND hockey fans who are NDSU fans for other sports, we  wouldn’t have the hockey following that we do. There are a number of UND fans that cheer for NDSU football when they aren’t playing UND or when they play for National Championships.  Most sports fans like to identify with a winner and some are just proud of anything that is positive for N. Dak.

Thank you for providing the definition of 'front-running'.

Absolutely despise and loathe both sides of it.

I want UND to be successful in everything.

Could not care less about the school in Fargo in the name of state pride.

Amen.

I’m not sure what you are trying to say regarding “front running” but it doesn’t matter.
I have friends and relatives who went to the Ag school but are great UND hockey supporters. I have friends who will cheer for them in playoffs if UND isn’t competing.  Who cares?  It doesn’t affect me nor does it bother me regardless of why they do that. They don’t send them money.

Several care, actually; it is called a rivalry.

Thanks for sharing your two cents on why it doesn’t affect you or your so called “friends and relatives” who are front-running, but there are several others who do actually understand how the ag school undermines UND and thus they understand the importance of upholding this rivalry on the gridiron, given its legacy, tradition, history, etc., as well as its impact on the perception of both schools to young people (future prospective students and current students).

I said I have “friends and relatives” who went to NDSU but are great UND hockey supporters. That’s not just when they win, it’s because they are hockey fans and NDSU doesn’t have a hockey team. That doesn’t make them “front runners”.  The friends that will cheer for NDSU when they are in playoffs just cuz they are an ND team is different   I guess one could argue that is “front running” but I’m not sure I agree. To me “front running” would be cheering for your rivals, rather than your own team because they are better.

I’m not sure not caring about who people cheer for would mean I don’t understand the rivalry. I’d be surprised if there is much you could tell me about the UND-NDSU rivalry that I don’t know or have personally experienced.  That includes financial manipulations, funding shifts, recruiting issues for both athletes and otherwise, letting an NDSU head coach know he couldn’t be on the sideline during a HS football game. A tractor tire being rolled from  the top row of the bleachers through the student section toward the UND bench during a UND-NDSU MBB, a half court brawl between  UND and NDSU FB players at halftime of a MBB. I’ve experienced the “rivalry, tradition, legacy, history etc” up close and personal for many years.

I wouldn’t assume that because I don’t care if someone cheers for NDSU when they aren’t playing UND, that I don’t have a complete and thorough understanding of the rivalry and the ramifications of it.

No question that you understand the rivalry which is why I was surprised you were erring on the side of front-running, it seemed.

Do Vikings fans cheer for Green Bay fans because they’re in the same division? Do Michigan fans cheer for Michigan State because they’re in the same state? Do Iowa fans cheer for Iowa State because they’re in the same state? Do South Dakota State fans cheer for South Dakota because they’re in the same state? Do Montana fans cheer for Montana State because they’re in the same state? You get my point. UND-ag school/fargo is a rivalry and rivalries exist all over sports and even outside of sports. It’s a reality and it’s okay to acknowledge that and accept it.

Anyways, UND having hockey and ag-school fargo not having hockey makes it unique a bit, but does set up front-running which should not be acceptable from UND football perspective.

Need to ultimately do something about it though, and it is in progress.
Need to close the gap between UND and ag school-fargo and ultimately put UND on top. Ag school-fargo fans who cheer for UND hockey are a category that you will never get full acceptance for from UND supporters, ever, and you know, I’m fine with that. UND hockey does very well financially and honestly doesn’t need those ag school-fargo fans if push comes to shove, but we’ll take it for now.

Need to make front-running a thing of the past in North Dakota, where everyone (other than alumni of ag school-fargo) truthfully wants to cheer for UND and only UND. It is well on its way to happening again, but will take some time … although we’re ahead of schedule.

It seems to me that a rural North Dakotan who has no connection to either school naturally gravitates to SU because of its agriculture education roots. Might also be cause if they don't have a connection their neighbor's kid or someone in their family has an SU connection. Perhaps the slam "if you want to work on a farm go to SU, if you want to own a farm go to UND" pokes them a little also.
