You have to go all the way back to last year with Ludvig Persson.

Before that? The two years prior with Jakob Hellsten.

Completely mind warped on them.  Persson's been around so long that it didn't register, but should have remembered Hellsten because of the  hype about his background and the fact that he wasn't playing over here first.

So when are we getting a CHL player?

Expand

We've gotta be after a forward or two, right?
A ton of teams have CHL commits already...many teams with multiple.  Granted, a good chunk of those commits aren't 'elite', but we'll need to make some good additions for next seasons forward group.

At minimum, we lose Schmaltz, Berg, Jammer, Kunz, and Wilkie.  Five forwards to replace and probably only Zellers and Klee ready to come in...maybe Schultz...from our current commits.  We need at least 2 more forwards from portal or CHL.

No, to anyone.

Landon Dupont is following a few NCAA teams so maybe him also heard Mews is who it might be to a Boston school or Michigan

I saw there have been 57 CHL commits so far

DuPont is too young I believe.

he's a 2009.  If he is a sophomore in high school this year he can have recruiting conversations now as of January 1.  He can also do unofficial campus visits.  August 1st this summer there can be official campus visits and verbal offers for him.

gotta think Dupont is looking to play in an NIL sweepstakes...

Agreed. Nodak would be a great spot for him for a year, especially if he can accelerate his schooling. Maybe get two years in. We’re going to have to pay him though.

Has Berry said anything about the 1883 collective? Schmidt has been very vocal and active since he started. New drive that is football related.

Not a single member of our coaching staff is very active on social media at all. Don’t even remember the last time I saw a post from one of them.

So, there's going to be at a minimum 5F spots that are needed to be filled next year. Two locks currently committed (Klee & Zellers). Are Schultz or O'Neill realistic options for next year? Both with strong mid-season rankings for the draft. Would be true freshman. Neither lighting it up to the point where you'd think they wouldn't need one more year of juniors. Even realizing you have the CHL / Portal as options, when does this become an issue? The Portal was not as strong last year as it has been in the past. We're out of Covid seasons as well.

I think O’Neill may be more likely than Schultz just based on his style of play. We lose a lot of players that we use to play against other teams top players and provide some grittiness in the lineup (Jamernik, Schmaltz, Berg, etc) and he’s a bigger guy who could fit into the bottom 6. But I also think he’d be better served playing another year in the USHL.

Was very impressed with his game last night in the prospects game.  Seems like he will be a nice penalty killer.  Would take it if he could develop into an Austin Poganski type player for us.  Really thought all our guys in that game played pretty well.  After watching Benak as well, someone will be getting a really nice player.
