Heard very similar sentiment about Jackson Blake, and he was an undersized 4th round draft pick.

Blake could’ve tested free agency the following summer if he played his junior season at UND. I don’t think it was a risk but it’s something NHL teams do take into account. While many of us wished Blake stayed, he was more ready than Verhoeff. This isn’t meant to be a knock on Keaton either. He is young and it showed but the talent is clearly there.

I did not think Blake was NHL ready at all when he left and I was obviously wrong about that. With that being said, I don't think Verhoeff is anywhere near ready. He has some big skating and processing issues that need to be addressed. He looked so overwhelmed against Wisconsin's forecheck, I don't think there's any chance he could handle the NHL right now.

Blake had holes in his game when he left, but he dominated the college level offensively. Verhoeff has yet to dominate any element of the game at this level. To be clear, I think Keaton has a ton of potential, it's just not put together yet

I'm betting that we start to see a much improved Verhoeff as his Soph season progresses.  Similar to Emery this past season.  EJ had a good but not great FR season, but really started to blossom his Soph year.

Where is Verhoeff going to go if he leaves college? He's not even close to NHL ready. Unless his skating takes a massive improvement over the summer before he goes to a development camp.

The AHL team that drafts him.  He obviously has gone down in draft status, so maybe the NHL team thinks they can develop him better.

I think there are going to be portal schools and overager schools and Elite 18 year old schools....

And add Schools that do a mix of all three that makeup the typical NCHC team that wins the Natty each yeat

Prince Albert takes down Medicine Hat, 4-2, in their series.
Prince Albert now takes on Everett for the WHL finals...so it'll be Rudolph vs DuPont.

Rudolph had another good game...1g/2a.

Jonas Woo had a really good season and playoffs for MH...will be interesting to see how he does at ASU next year being a smaller, more offensive dman.  Good pickup for them, for sure.

It’s one thing to say he would benefit from another year of college hockey—quite another to say he “not even close” and that his skating needs “massive improvement.”   Prospects falling that far short are not predicted by pro scouts to go in the first round, much less in the top 6-10.

I’m not saying he’s not top-10 talent.. KV will get there, but there’s no way he is be ready for the NHL yet. Yet.  Not never, but yet. Not many of those defenseman don’t jump into the NHL at 18 unless you skate like Schaefer, which KV doesn’t

Mock draft on bleacher report I seen today had him number one.

Yeah but he didn’t go down in draft because he’s a bad player or isn’t developing at the right spot. He just got exposed at the college level and is yet to make the big jump that he’ll likely make this season. Another year in the NCHC is going to be perfect for him.

He will not go #1. He’s on the bubble of the top 5 right now if you go by public consensus. Who knows where some teams have him internally though

What is “public consensus,” exactly?

Not saying that, whatever the answer is, it isn’t as credible as anything else.

Could SiouxSports be public consensus?  Everyone here seems pretty level headed and rational.

Just my anecdotal sampling of mock drafts and scout opinions. It is much more common to see Verhoeff going 5-6 in most mocks now, versus 2-3 before this season.

Agreed, he could move up a couple but he isn’t going one. And that’s probably a good thing for the squad next year.

A handful of talented local(ish) kids went in the USHL draft yesterday...Moorhead, Warroad, Grand Forks.  Be fun to see their progress and interest in UND.  Several guys that were previously selected by WHL teams but didn't sign were drafted, however it seemed quite clear to me that guys that had a high probability of going CHL were not picked up or picked up late as flyers.   Seemed to me that the battle lines are really being drawn between USA Hockey and Hockey Canada...which is too bad, because it only hurts the kids.  Another note is that the online rating and scouting services seem to be off in left field on a number of these guys.  Not surprising.  They get paid on clicks, not on wining games or getting guys to the next level.

Who got drafed from Grand Forks ? We need some local blood in the future pipeline at some point.

Burris, Kunz yesterday and Bydal today so far.  Kraft, Coulter, Korten, Grammar, Q Jackson, Hontvedt, Marvin from the area just to name a few.  You can find whole lists on USHL draft board

Niklas Aaram-Olsen to BU

Not sure if another young late 1st / 2nd rounder is what BU needs. Seems like they could use some older D+1 CHL players.

They kinda got burned by the same type of player last year (Fondrk, Murtagh, Amico all come to mind as guys that should've all been in JRs last year)
