I have some serious questions on this for all public universities the money involved now especially at both UND and NDSU is becoming  huge dollars how is this being monitored by state how money flows from outside interests to universities. I am wondering if there are auditing procedures and risk assessments in place other than at university level. The reporting on this it was small number people on discussion when this deal was done even reported by Fargo media. Yes, it will be paid privately but we also this does not mean rhere are outside parties benefiting from this in business deal for the athletic program. Also all talk athletic program money coming from charitable gambling to me that has implications this has gotten away from intent when charitable gambling was first set up by the state. What I remember was to help fund charitable organizations that either state or local governments were unable to fund but now seeing now this has been used to fund university sports and I know of it happening also at high school or parks recreation in smaller towns. I have to wonder if push back could come when state budgets get strapped need grows for general public and most people probably were unaware money of this magnitude was funding NDSU athletics. My gut feeling this sooner or later a scandal is going to develop when you mix gambling and high level sports together.  I wonder what risks are to universities and to state this contract that was signed which longterm commitment with millions of dollars and done by tight group individuals in sports department and out going president and interim president not fully in place and who else that was involved this decision. Some points I am raising there very well be save guards but this discussion needs to be aired to public before the deal was done not just signed and spun to public after they have committed.

We put more money into education than sports unlike the ag college

So we can have great academics or great athletics, but not both?

That sounds like the Rutgers model to me.

I don't want to be Rutgers.

Fundraising for academics and athletics should be separate. I think we could establish an athletics endowment by tapping into revenue sources we haven't tapped into yet. But as long as we stick to our archaic, Division 2 funding model, that won't happen.

And enough of relying entirely on one donor (we all know who that is). That isn't feasible going forward, especially as the costs of running an athletic department continue to go up.

Outside the box thinking is needed here. Not living in the 1990's.

if you look at the dollars und has for athletics...it's there and were competitive compared to the other dak3 (and montanas)....we just don't where it's going imo....or in the correct ratio for teams that don't ryhme with "nockey".....

Does this include Englestad money flowing to UND?  I fail to see a difference.

So NDSU only gets a small cut of the streaming revenue for the MWC?  How is that tenable at all?  There has to be some weird shenanigans going on here....

so true....you do wonder if that consulting firm consulted enough......this will be fun to watch across the daks and montanas/idaho.....

Will their fb still be on wday when streamed or is it exclusive streaming if not on national tv?

From the article it says

"The Mountain West will also launch a new streaming platform as part of its new media deal. Powered by the technology company Kiswe, it will carry all conference events not carried on linear TV on a subscription basis. NDSU will receive a full share of that revenue, which stands to be substantial depending on the number of subscribers."

Unless you're making 25M + in tv $ yearly, collegiate athletics should have a regional (your location can cause different definition of regional / peer institutions) and rival focus. NDSU is swinging big with this move. Where I've shifted since the announcement, is I think they're taking a bigger risk than I initially thought. Success would be if they win at a rate in the MWC / G6 as they did at the FCS level. Year in and year out being in the CFP discussion. Leverage that in 5 years into the PAC. Possible, yes. Likely if this was the collegiate landscape of 10 years ago, yes. In the current landscape, does 9-3 yearly cut it? We'll see. There's a chance their arrogance will finally catch up to them.

Interesting.  If they won't be on WDAY, they will have less exposure to North Dakotans whether they are on national TV or not imo.

the ndac has practically ZERO chance at pac12......they are probably wise to the fact that a split is coming in the mwc....either a miracle happens and they are brought with to the pac12 if the whole mwc goes...(highly unlikely bc wyoming is....wyoming)...or they get left behind with wyoming and get to invite whatever they can to join and UND won't be one but montana, msu, idaho, sdac. tarelton, acu nmsu will

The problem with your theory is the 4 teams that are in bold will already be in the new (incredibly competitive / exciting) division of Conference USA. That'll take place before any type of major split within MWC would occur.

Pretty sure UM and MSU are tied together unless they change something at the state legislative level to allow them to separate.

More likely, Hauck got a big raise and a smaller headache (more coaching, less roster management/NIL).

I don't a major split happening in the MWC. Why? To start, there's only two all sport members who provide value to conferences better than the MWC (UNLV, Air Force). Now, based on the member locations, they bring some value as for TV. MWC provide a higher $ value than the other bottom G6 conferences (ex: Conf USA, MAC). So, outside of UNLV, Air Force, who else would leave and where? PAC value would decrease if they add anyone but UNLV, Air Force. Current members like UTEP, NIU would make more than they would going back to other conferences. Imo, everyone but UNLV, Air Force and Grand Canyon are stuck.
