I find it kind of crazy that MN doesn’t have a host of alumni coaching in hockey they could pick from, if they wanted a legacy coach.   UND has plenty  of guys who are successful coaches at all levels.

They have two currently on the staff.

Some bad omissions from the Hobey Baker top 10 IMHO

I honestly haven't paid much attention to this award since 2001.

And before someone says something, I was happy for Ryan Duncan winning it in 2007. But I'm sure he would trade that in for a natty in a heartbeat.

This has been the list on GPL since they accepted the season was over.

Potulny isn't leaving the pros to come back to the Gophers.

I'm hoping they go after Brett Larson.   I mean, St Cloud hasn't been trending up since he took over.

I just don't see them ever cracking into CHL talent.  (1) all the "better" recruits "right on their doorstep at home" ... and those complaints tearing alumni support apart, and (2)  if you're a CHL talent, there's a lot of great places to go that LOVE Canadian hockey players.

If Augustine, who isn’t the best goalie, wins it then he won it because he’s a senior.

Wouldn’t be the first time that the folks who choose the award winners view it as a “lifetime” achievement award

Yeah honestly I don’t keep track but you don’t hear much about alumni when they look for coaches.  Where at UND we have a plethora of alums coaching all over place

But I do think with so many Minnesotans playing in the WHL, some may become friends with their teammates possibly getting their foot in the door with some recruits, and it only takes a few recruits to get the ball rolling.  Also, if the new coach can develop more NIL possibilities, that would help, as we saw with Penn State.

They are the only two I can think of.

There is 6 former UND players as coaches in D1 (I'll count JP in this list)

8 years ago, I heard people say no way that Motzko would leave SCSU to go to UM.  Well, that happened.  It was a good run, Robert.  A damn solid 8 years with the only blemish being the GD OT loss I don't want to talk about.

Bottom line is money talks.  Pat F....yes, has a special program.  Also makes over $300K less than Bob per year of google is working correctly.  Good luck to WMU matching anything UM has to offer if they want him bad enough.  Grew up in Rochester, MN?  Does he wanna come home for a massive pay raise?  Wanna get "younger" to appeal more today's recruiting style?  Pat is the same age Bob was when he took over the program so that doesn't exactly work too well.  I don't think it's going to happen, but if I'm the AD I drop that money bag on his doorstep and tell WMU good luck coming close.  Less than 5% chance.  EDIT: apparently he has a 2+ million buyout so that makes it closer to 0.

Potulny?  No thanks.

Darby?  Nope.

Paul Martin?  No clue what ties he has in recruiting, etc.

Ben Barr?  Checks that youth box.  Won with Umass in 2021.  Doing great things at Maine.  Shattuck ties.  I'd take that as the second realistic option (don't think Pat F is all that realistic).

Raboin is Option 1.  Massive Motzko ties.  Massive MN ties.  Ties to the program and the alumni base.  Excellent with recruiting and the youth.  Augustana has a ceiling and it's not even close to what MN has to offer, not to mention zero chance to compete with that bank account.  The Gopher season ended one week ago.  I would have no doubt that Motzko and Raboin have chatted at some point real recently, and the recruiting pipeline and current roster all know what's coming.

I'd venture to guess a large reason he took the HC at Augustana is to get the experience for when this happens.  I'd be shocked if it wasn't Raboin, and it would be a home run hire IMO.  In addition, I'd be shocked if the GM job doesn't come.  I believe the women's program already offers it, and UND may have been the trailblazer on that but it is 100% necessary in today's landscape.

Once Augie is officially, officially eliminated, I don't think it'll take long.

Didn’t Ferschweiler have opportunities to interview for pro jobs he turned down? Also, you would think that someone needs to be contacting current players and recruits to prevent them from bolting before an announcement is made.  May be hard to keep that under wraps if Raboin is doing it behind the scenes.

Yeah perhaps.  He is the longest of long shots.  Not even worth talking about for the Gophers IMO.

So the Portal opens on the 13th of April, but in the case of a coaching change there is an exception. A 15 day window opens 5 days after the new head coach is announced. If no coach is hired within 30 days, a 15 day window opens on day 31. The coach change window can only occur after the main post-championship window has opened.....

Getting back to the Hobey talk, you’d think McKennas legal dispute would negatively influence it

No, character only factors in when it's Matt Frattin 🙄
