.357 Posted Thursday at 03:33 PM Posted Thursday at 03:33 PM In the following excerpt from Schlossman, it appears that UND is going through formal channels in the hiring process to find the next coach, & not vetting applicants through back channels. I thought doing it this way would expose the current applicants to their current employers because of ND's open records law? Or are only the finalists publicly named? "UND's human resource department will screen the applicants, remove those who do not fit the required criteria and then deliver them to athletic director Bill Chaves. Once Chaves receives them, he will begin scheduling Zoom interviews with the top candidates. Interviews are likely to begin as soon as Friday." Quote
78 und grad Posted Thursday at 03:33 PM Posted Thursday at 03:33 PM Just be glad we’ve not had to deal with a situation like the gophers did in 1980s. Brad buetow was the coach. They had the “sheila” kerfluffle. I believe th gophers were finally sued years later. Was very nasty publicity 1 Quote

cberkas Posted Thursday at 04:03 PM Posted Thursday at 04:03 PM I happened to venture into the feral lands of college hockey reddit the other day.............. SiouxSports being a talking point over there by a fan base that talks about firing their coaches more than here (Minnesota) and others including ours. On how we are all unreasonable about the coaching change. Still find it odd how there are fans of UND over there that bring up Sandy and how he was recently but fail to realize he would have been fired after 5 season here. Or how he did he do with less than he would have had here. Well, let's look at other schools: Yale, Union, Providence, UMass, Quinnipiac, and Mankato all don't have what UND has yet they find a way to be in the discussion each year. Two things that keep coming up are the 2020 season and the 5 OT game. How UND was going to win a National Title and how unfair the 2021 Fargo Regional Final was unfair. We have no idea if UND would have won the game against Sacred Heart (going by the PWR they would be 16th). Due to Loveland being the closest regional and Denver hosting UND probably would have gotten them in the regional final (all the other regionals were in the east and 3 west teams in the top 4). With Denver being the highest 2 seed, they could have beat UND if the season wasn't cancelled. The 5 OT game against Duluth, it took two @MafiaMan mG<2-minute special goals to tie that game. BC who didn't have to play a first-round game lost in their Regional Final, so the whole unfair argument is dumb. Enough with my off-topic soapbox rant about these two things but the ifs and buts on those two seasons get so old. 2 Quote

GFNodakUSA Posted Thursday at 04:04 PM Posted Thursday at 04:04 PM If they already have “their guy” there is no way they can keep it from getting leaked. Players would be informed and the word is out. They must truly not know. Quote

Yes he is running everything until they hire a new coach. Trying to keep guys form entering the portal, looking at potential portal players to come to UND, he is doing all the duties of a head coach. I don’t get it…one is the GM for Waterloo and one is the coach for Waterloo. Neither of them have ever won anything as coach or GM. Is it because you loved the way they played at UND? They don’t have the pedigree to be mentioned in the same breath as any number of folks that have applied for this job. If you want pedigree look to someone that has won at the USHL level, college level, and pro level…there is a few that have and are applying for this job…these two haven’t won anything yet…they are very young and their time may come but please, let’s wait for them to earn the right to be considered for this position. I can tell you from talking to people in the hockey world, Bent Chyzyk is highly regarded as a great hockey mind and has a great eye for talent. I think it would be a good idea to hire him at part of the staff to be a team GM or ever we want to call it. He was at Breakaway Academy and I know he is well respected, and my brother-in-law speaks highly of him, too. For the record Jackson Blake was a Breakaway hockey player. 6 Quote

Popular Post MafiaBoy Posted Thursday at 04:38 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 04:38 PM I'm hearing rumors that my dad is a finalist for the job. Must be the awesome job he does coaching Red Army broomball that got him noticed by UND administration. 3 7 Quote
.357 Posted Thursday at 04:46 PM Posted Thursday at 04:46 PM Since most former & current players favor Jackson, maybe Schlossman should inquire of his mother to see if she also gives her son a ringing endorsement. When a reporter gives only the positives of a candidate, without any possible cons, it leads me to think that either A) the candidate is a saint with no negatives, or B) the reporter has an agenda & is spinning a narrative (because hey, there are issues in the program & the assoc. coach has to share at least some culpability for the downward spiral of the team. To believe otherwise smacks of naivete). 1 Quote
AJS Posted Thursday at 04:50 PM Posted Thursday at 04:50 PM We all hope it works out, but how embarrassing when Jackson gets the job. Qualifications include having support from current players, recent graduates & turned down an AHL job once. What an all-time resume! 2 Quote

It's not what I personally wanted out of the whole thing as I think it is a more short-sighted decision to try and keep current players and recruits rather than getting an up and comer that could be a longer term solution. But with fresh blood in the assistant coaches' group (paint me as someone who thinks Chyzyk would be great in that role if interested), there is optimism. 1 2 Quote

He's been here 19 years. If there is little to no improvement in the performance of the team two years from now, then it will be back to the drawing board. 1 Quote
