The brackets could have been set within 10 minutes of DU beating UMD. The travel and attendance considerations are nonsense.

They care about attendance but not when it comes to waiting 12 hrs to reveal a bracket, giving fans even less time to make travel plans.

Why even have a committee.  If UMD would have been 15 instead or 8 I would say it's stupid to have them play UND. This is the national tournament and I want to see teams play different opposition.

I dont think there is nearly enough interconfernce play to make the ratings system accurate enough to follow so blindly. The basketball tournament uses a variety of criteria and that seems to work out OK.

No committee needed. Your logic doesn't apply to college football nationals, so why does it make sense for college hockey. I couldn't care less whether we play different opposition. You have to defeat the field to win the championship.

While I don't think they should go thru great lengths to avoid conferences in the same regional, I'd prefer they leave UMD at 8 instead of potentially seeing UND vs UMD for a 6th time this yr. Fun to play teams we don't normally see.

How are the income (gate and merch receipts, advertisement income, etc) and expenses shared between the venue sites, participating  schools, and NCAA?

What college football championship uses a numerical ranking to seed postseason?

The CFP uses a committee that everyone hates or complains about. They had to make a rule that Notre Dame gets in if they are in the top 12.

Article on Smaby:

Quote

UND associate head coach Matt Smaby has been watching the NCAA basketball tournament.

He said the players have, too.

"These high seeds, these teams that are projected to make big runs, they're done," Smaby said. "They're done in 40 minutes. We've got all these great reminders around us."

Our last losing season was 2001-2002 (the first season in the new REA).

Before that, you have to go back to 1993-1994 (Gino's last season in charge).

And before THAT, you have to go back to 1977-1978 (Rube Bjorkman's last season in charge).

Very impressive stat. Has any team benefited more from conference realignment than Mankato?

Michigan Tech isn't far behind.  Looks like their last losing season was 12-13.  They're were 7-7 in 20-21, so not a winning season, but not losing either.

The record is 25 winning seasons in a row.  UND is at 24 right now.

UND's run is approaching college hockey's all-time record, too.

The record is 25 straight winning seasons set by Michigan from 1987-88 to 2011-12. Red Berenson was the head coach for that entire run.

UND's current run is second.

Quote

UND's last losing season was 2001-02, when it posted a 16-19-2 record in the first year of Ralph Engelstad Arena. That's UND's only losing season in the last 32 years.

Prior to the current run, UND's longest was 13 straight winning seasons from 1978-79 to 1991-92 — the first 13 years of Gino Gasparini's tenure.

We probably get one more season out of him. No complaints though, impactful from day 1

I'd love to see him stick around for his JR season like what Oshie did.  He's similar to Oshie in that it seems like he really loves UND...seems that a lot of those guys that leave early wish they had stuck around another year.

Bruins will push to sign Zellers after his sophomore year in 2027, which would be 3 years removed from the 2024 Draft. They don't want to risk him running out the clock to UFA in 2028 (unless they get a guarantee he's signing regardless). This is why Blake was signed after his sophomore season. 2021 Draft, 1 year USHL + 2 years NCAA = 3 years removed from draft, Hurricanes didn't want to risk losing him in August 2025

Yeah I know he'll get pressure to sign, I'm hoping he can tell them one more year and they'll be assured he'll sign after his JR.
We'll see how next season goes.

Ollie getting closer:

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-monitoring-ollie-josephsons-progress-ahead-of-frozen-four

Quote

Josephson is now skating in practice with his teammates in Ralph Engelstad Arena as the Fighting Hawks prepare to play in the NCAA Frozen Four on April 9 against Wisconsin in Las Vegas.

Jackson said Wednesday it's still too early to know if Josephson can play in the semifinal game. "He's been skating with our guys for the last couple days," Jackson said. "He's been in practice, doing most of the drills — not all of them. He's coming along pretty well."

Quote

If Josephson is able to play, UND will have a difficult lineup decision to make.

Josephson centered the team's third line for nearly the entire season. UND moved freshman Jack Kernan into that slot between Cody Croal and Tyler Young for the NCAA regional and they were arguably UND's best line. They scored three goals in the regional final against Quinnipiac.
