Both heading off in opposite directions on player visits. The coaching staff definitely put in the work this offseason.

Can North Dakota’s Roster Overhaul Take It Back to Success?

North Dakota enters an intriguing year with a lot of players leaving North Dakota after the lack of success the past few seasons and the firing of 10-year head coach Brad Berry. The most notable of them is sophomore Sacha Boisvert; their 30-point first-line center elected to transfer to Boston University. Five of last season’s top six forwards have left.

North Dakota got to work in recruiting and the transfer portal, and committed two of the top CHL prospects in forward Cole Reschny and defenseman Keaton Verhoeff. Reschny, the 18th overall pick of the 2025 NHL draft, will have high expectations to lead the forwards with returning senior Dylan James. Clarkson transfer Ellis Rickwood had 35 points last season for the Golden Knights and will be a key piece in the Fighting Hawks' offense. 

“I expect ups and downs, usually our best players, they have some struggles but if you're a smart player you learn to adapt. Usually by the second half, you start to get comfortable and you’re not considered a rookie anymore.” coach Dane Jackson said. 

The Fighting Hawks' goaltending situation looks new as well with Arizona State transfer Gibson Homer being the target for the starting role. 

A change of scenery for the North Dakota bench with the firing of Berry and long-time assistant Jackson stepping up.

Sounds like the coaches were traveling all over the US and Canada visiting with players, commits, and potential recruits.
They certainly earned their paychecks this summer.

Glad to see hockey back on TV for the year! UND played well and without going into X's and O's, they definitely passed the eye test for me. Plenty to work on and clean up for sure, but with the number of new players, the number of young players, a new coach, and a variety of other changes .... I liked what I saw. This could certainly change and I'm far from ready to crown us, or anyone, champs ... but over the years there have been plenty of teams that have talent but still don't pass the eye test. I was impressed with what I saw on Saturday (granted it was against Manitoba), but there already seems to be some good chemistry on this team and it is soooo early. Plenty of time to build more and grow as a group.

Biggest surprise for me so far is that Kernan is good enough to play a top 6 role.  That bodes very well for the forward group's talent level.  They are young, but they certainly passed the eye test and played with speed and tenacity.  

Weibe looks to be on a whole new level.  Really glad he came back.

Kernan has poise, for sure. Weibe definitely benefited from all of those minutes last year. Also, not having any defensive breakdowns was nice to see.

So he made Cameo exclusively for UND hockey? Idea isn't original but if it scales to more sports and schools with the NIL compliance angle he could be on to something. Curious what the app's cut of the fees is.

I'm all for the entrepreneurship(it's a cool concept) however the most surprising part of this story is that Weatherby's over in Czechia playing hockey.  I always thought he may hang around in the NHL or at least the AHL for a bit.
