If the rumors about Gordon, Rickwood, and McMorrow are true, we'd be one high end CHL player away from calling it a complete forward group. Still need a dman or two as well assuming Jax will be carrying 9 D. tUND Fighting Portals 1 Quote

And of the three players in the quote you mentioned, McMorrow isn't a portal player. At this point, the portal is a requirement to stay relevant in the current age of NCAA hockey. If your team doesn't utilize the portal (and now, moving forward, the CHL), the team will get left behind. 1 1 Quote

Other teams also use the portal way more than UND does but those teams don’t seem to get half the criticism. Quote

Agree. Western MIchigan won a national championship with 6 portal players and 2 decommitted players (Bump and Hampton) who were arguably their 2 best players. 1 Quote

Probably because they don’t refer to themselves as a “blue blood”. Blue bloods are supposed to have their own recruits with a couple fill ins from the portal. 1 1 Quote

That being said, I do prefer building the program via traditional recruiting. Quote

But currently how things are, transfers are needed to balance out our senior and junior classes so we have space for our recruits in the next couple seasons. IMO, Berry was over reliant on the portal to put a bandaid on recruiting failures. It’s not sustainable long term to keep doing that, but we only return 5 forwards from last years team and we were not going to bring in 10 freshman forwards. 2 Quote

Basically Big10, HE and obviously the Ivys were at the bottom. Which I don’t expect to change anytime soon. Quote

Yeah, and some time you have your hand forced, as you can’t bring in too many of your own recruits early to replace guys lost like Perron, Boisvert and McLaughlin. Remember a couple weeks ago when people were wringing their hands because we didn’t have portal commits? Some of the guys we are talking about in rumors are far more attractive than many of the guys that were in the portal early on. In fact if all these rumors are true, we might be pretty full in a hurry. I wouldn’t mind having a little wiggle room if someone nice pops up late or if someone like Bump becomes available in the summer. Quote
