2025 Transfer portal

Most have noticed that a lot of the big time programs have stayed fairly quiet in the transfer portal. I believe that is a result of teams just keeping space to bring in their committed recruits &/or leaving space open to bring in high end CHLers this summer. Very intriguing nonetheless.

He can be one of many first round draft picks in Michigan's lineup, or he can leave a mark on a program like Zach Parise and Jonathan Toews while focusing on his craft without distractions.  Here's hoping he can make his mark on our program instead of another and can be a part of our Mount Rushmore.

Obviously landing McKenna would be an absolute game changer, but the article in itself gives me a sense of optimism.

1) Referring to Michigan and UND as Blue Bloods. Knowing those further from the program still see UND that way and in the same category as Michigan is good to see.

2) Free press with the GM move and saying "North Dakota isn't messing around". It really gave me a "UND isn't going down without a fight" sense and I love that. It's been a bit doom and gloom here lately thinking our best years are behind us, so reading that was refreshing.

3) I actually think the less portal news right now the better. As some have said, there really aren't any studs in there. I'm inclined to think that Jax and Co aren't just settling and they're going hard after the CHL right now.

Have to try and make a splash! Guessing if Chyzyk told his UND connections there was a chance at McKenna, there'd be a big effort to donate to the 1883 Collective.

Something BC can hopefully sell to blue chips is GF is a better place to prepare for media scrutiny as a pro.

Plus most (Western) Canadian kids love that hockey is a priority at UND & in Grand Forks.

Would be huge.  Hope it happens.  Can't live in the past but imagine McKenna and Boisvert on the same roster?  That transfer still stings and makes me hate BU even more.  Hope like hell Penn State beats them tonight.  Hate list in order - DU Mich. BC Minn BU.

I’m not even recruiting kids from the northeast US and eastern Canada unless they come to Chyzyk and the staff first at this point.

Solid LHD. Not better than Livanavage or Wiebe though so not really a need. I think Strathmann breaks out next season as he gets some PP time. Unless a D leaves, they don’t need anyone. Another RHD depth type guy could help with Zmolek’s injury history.

Wouldn't want to miss out on a Shane Pinto.  Just saying.  Yes, you could lose them to another team with NIL, but you could also lose them to the NHL, so to me if you can get a special talent, you utilize them while you have them.

Pinto was before NIL and the transfer portal allowed unlimited transfers. I get your point though. Also, he was a guy who grew up watching videos of North Dakota hockey. I think he truly loved it and embraced the culture. I don’t think you can say that for most guys from those areas.

Going back to 2021, UND has lost Boisvert, McLaughlin, Emerson, Benoit, Costantini, and Cooper Moore. All eastern guys.

C from RIT with solid numbers in the portal and two years remaining. Obviously Wilkie came from there and was a step behind the NCHC for the first half of the year, but if we don't have CHL silent commits that play C he'd be worth a look.

Maybe someone on here can verify this, but I heard we could of had Hampton Slukynsky if Berry would've agreed to bring in Grant as well and he said no. I would've liked to have both.

I sat next to Slukynskys dad for the frozen face-off championship and talked to him for a while. When I asked him about the recruiting process after he decommited fron NMU, he said that they never talked to Brad, only Goehring. And Karl basically said "We'd love to have you, but we're full right now."

Take out either TJ or Hobie for Hampton. 
Take out any senior forward other than Berg for Grant.

That explains why both Berry and Goehring are gone.

Grant had all of 5 assists and zero goals in a full ushl season. Had he been a commit we would have yanked his offer.

I can understand why they didn’t recruit Hampton as early as Northern Michigan did the first time, but by the time he committed to Western, he had already proven himself at another level.  Not making a move on him the second time around was borderline negligence.  Big miss by Karl and Berry.
