Absent on the recruiting trail? As in, not out there at all for some reason? Or out there but just not grabbing attention of top tier players like UND used to be able to in the past?

Blows my mind guys like Schloss and others can say moving on from Berry was a bad move. How can anyone deny the steady decline of the program over the past 8-9 years? As of today is UND even considered a blue chip program anymore? Historically yes, as that will never go away, but as of today I mean. Sadly I'd say no.

Anyone else sick of this crap? College hockey isn't even college hockey anymore, it's a completely different sport when you aren't recruiting a kid to develop them into the best player/person they can

I don't think he overtly said that, did he? His article said it just was abnormal and if I recall the story, he even noted the pressure of coaching at UND and the fanbase's expectations.

Agreed.

I wonder if some complacency kicked in with Berry over the last few years between having long tenure and a fat paycheck. 
 

Scotty Owens’ last few years at CC, he wouldn’t even get on the ice for practice. He’d sit up in the stands with a newspaper while he let his assistants run practice. Also, he flew first class on road trips while players and assistants flew coach. Not good optics.

Pretty simple.... no police report or charges. Why would Brad cover a fight if there's no way to know who was in the dang fight?

Ask all of the posters "in the know". I haven't read in any of these threads where, "...UND was close, but at $25,00, it wasn't on par with the current market."  Don't hate the player(s), hate the game. We can whine, complain & make principled statements like, "Well! If playing for the Sioux ain't good enough, the we don't want 'em!" And the other schools will smile, say 'Thank you very much' and take those players. It's not any different from the game pro sports play when, _____ quarterback's new contract just made him the highest paid QB in the league. Show that you respect the player's skill level and/or rank in their sport, or someone else will. I hire sales people all the time, believe me, they know exactly what their competitors are making, and where the market level is set. 

But ask the 'experts', I have no clue, maybe we are paying now, but just not enough.

Grand forks is too small to be able to raise the kind of money these kids think they are worth 

charles Barkley said it best when he said adults need to get in the room and fix this 

any business needs to ask what will my return on my investment be

pay a kid $xyz this year and they are gone next year , I won’t shop for anything just because an athlete says it’s good 

‘if a kid leaves they should have to pay the school they are leaving from a % of their next contract , just like coaches do

IIRC Blais, when he left, said something to the effect of his thinking 10 years about about the expiration date in one place.  Of course, that can be different for everyone.  But from my own experience in business I know one can get comfortable in a job over time and as they get older.  Not saying this applies to Berry.  Just a plausible explanation.
